how do you guys feel about signing a guy like Lance Briggs if hes not tagged, he made some huge plays yesterday and scatters the field like a CB hes a great player, what kind of contract do you think he will get?
Yet another great 4-3 LB when he has big boys in front of him. Does he fit a 3-4? I dont think so....$$$ will be spent in other areas
yeah, but dont the bears run a 3-4? plus do you think thers any chance we switch back to the 4-3 or not?
He's played the weakside during his tenure as 4-3 Will in the Cover-2. Not sure how easy it'd be for him to primarily be a pass-rushing OLB in a 3-4...
Quite honestly I can't give a legit answer. I've watched the Bears like 4 times this year, and rarely did I focus on Lance Briggs. Not saying he can't be good in the 3-4, I just don't know and he's played in the Cover-2 weakside for a majority of his career.
I don't see him as a pass-rushing LB, so I think the Jets have more important needs. Furthermore, it is not worth the amount of coin he is going to command to hope he will be able to be a dominant force in the 3-4
If the Jets are going to follow the Pats model, there is no way they sign a top line free agent to a big contract and that is what Briggs is going to get from someone. Besides, the Jet LBs are fine. It is the DL that needs the overhaul.
i agree BlairThomas, but i feel we need a big DT first off, we need someone to open up some holes so vilma doesnt get eaten alive, its going to be a fun offseason
The Bears have nobody else they really need to worry about losing. They might franchise Briggs. Boone, Alfonso DT UFA Briggs, Lance LB UFA Brown, Ruben OG UFA Gage, Justin WR UFA Johnson, Tank DT RFA Johnson, Todd S RFA Manning, Jr., Ricky CB UFA Reid, Gabe TE UFA Scott, Ian DT UFA Wilson, Rod LB ERFA Worrell, Cameron S RFA
I think the bears paly only 4-3 Urlacher is the only middle LB. What we need is to somehow pry Adalius Thomas away from the Ravens. What a beast he is!!!
If Thomas doesn't get franchised, I see the 49ers breaking the bank for him. I think they have like $20mm more in cap space than the Jets. Furthermore, Thomas will be 30 when next season starts, so whoever signs him is going to have to deal with the camp consequences on a long term deal when his production declines in about 4 seasons.
I definitely think that Jets #1 defensive priority is that space-eater DT. I was just saying that Jets LB corps is pretty solid save another good, strong, big OLB. Briggs, being 6-1, 240# is just a slighly bigger Vilma, so he wouldn't fit the bill. That being said, he seemed to be all-over the field yesterday making plays. I don't see how the Bears wouldn't franchise him. (Urlacher has already stated he would re-work his deal to keep Briggs on the Bears.)
Good point, the Pats seem willing to pony-up money for defense, but not offense. However, with Colvin's injury the season after they signed him and really two seasons of under-production, they may not think signing the high-priced defensive FA is such a good idea anymore
Colvin had a pretty strong season this year, actually hes been solid the last 2 seasons with a combined 15.5 sacks, and 100+ tackles
They have Manny Lawson and Brandon Moore. Why do they need another OLB? Plus we have the most cap space in the NFL.
