I've seen that and was properly disgusted. I know there's a 'no politics' rule in place... but those assholes need to go.
I get guns from a collector's point of view (history and all that), but the stockpiling thing has always been way off to me. I know in some instances it's akin to hoarding, but hoard jelly beans or something. Every time this happens no-one is ever surprised. It's become part of the national landscape. It should be noted that one of the first mass/school shootings was done by Brenda Spencer, a 16 year old girl with some serious mental, psychological, and socio-economic problems. She also had an injury to her temporal lobe. Almost everyone has forgotten about the Grover Cleveland Elementary School shooting in San Diego in 1979, but Spencer is 'credited' with starting it all. Asked why she did it, she said, "I don't like Mondays", a song which became a big hit for Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats. I only bring this up because other than Spencer, it's pretty much a guy thing (whatever that means). I don't profess to know the answers, but let's be frank here. Guns made as weapons of war are meant to kill people. That's the only reason they are manufactured and the only reason they exist at all. If you like target practice, cool. I'm not sure why guns that are not allowed on a gun range are being sold and later used on people as targets, it makes no sense to me. That being said, if someone is going to go on a shooting rampage, they're going to do it regardless but I look at this the same way I look at CP: the ease of accessibility. It used to be much harder to perv and ruin children. Offenders managed to rape and exploit, alright, it just wasn't handed to them on a silver platter. Edit: Phone snafu.
I think it’s silly and I don’t personally own guns. But we go back to the percentages - 400+ million guns, 20+ million “assault” rifles in the country and these occurrences are a lot more rare in that sort of vacuum. Of course that’s utter bullshit if have a loved one who got killed in a bowling alley or school and I completely understand that no citizen should be fearful of said things. But the fact that millions upon millions of people responsibly own weapons without ever having an incident is what gives me pause as to needing a blanket ban on any single type. They just need to enforce laws to make sure the mentally insane don’t get them. And I think it’s a lot easier to do but our legislators like to stalemate the issue in Congress for a variety of reasons.
they arent ever medically insane though. This guy was healthy enough to serve our country and be an instructor even for firearm safety. I wish it was easy enough to see which people were crazy and which werent
It should’ve been plenty easy enough to see. He told the US military that he wanted to shoot up the base and was involuntary committed to a mental hospital for two weeks. I don’t think there’s quite an understanding how long two weeks is in a place like that. The fact that he retained his weapons thereafter is insane to me. I’m with shuffling some laws around and figuring out a way to make sure they’re more mentally stable before they can own AR-type rifles.
This guy was sent to an institution by the army I believe? If that happens, there is an evaluation. That evaluation should imo include a review of his firearms upon release. He specifically threatened to shoot something up. His family also reported him and his guns to police. It’s reasonable to say there was an intelligence failure here.
I’m sure they do. But do you have any evidence of an actual legislative effort to do things like that? I’d gladly be proven wrong but I think those who want to put forward things like that often say it as a campaign posture and then never try to fix it. Kind of like the con artists that bring term limits to the table full well knowing it’ll fail.
Idk i dont have time in my day to look through all the bills introduced in Congress to see if someone failed with this specific idea. Congress can't even agree to who sits at the front of the room and uses the fucking gavel lol
They aren’t gun nuts, they just do what they think will get them elected/re-elected. I doubt they really care about guns. Would love to see how many on both sides of the isle are invested in weapon production, it’s probably one reason they can never agree on anything domestic, but vote unanimously when it comes to throwing “support” overseas.
Yes it’s just sad and ridiculous!! I would never disrespect families that way . Obviously human life comes second when discussing gun ownership with the gun nuts With the Lawmakers is worse because it’s all about money and Gun Lobby profits that fuel their political campaigns
What I'd like to see happen is how many shooters are on psychotropic drugs. My guess is almost all of them, but no-one will ever go there. These drugs cause a fuckton more issues than what they're supposed to curtail. They're extremely harmful on so many levels. I've said this before, but somebody's gonna whistle blow one of these days. It will make the opioid crisis look like child's play in comparison. King me when it happens.
As I posted before, he had an acute break with reality..and no one acted fast enough So why risk that chance when you can take a product harmful to everyone off the market ? OTOH I agree that if they don’t ban ARs entirely they should make it extremely hard to get one..that woul be a little progress
It’s almost November. He went in the mental hospital in the summer. It’s not that no one acted fast enough. It’s that no one acted period.
So which guns would you like to see banned, and why. By the logic you and the other one are presenting, differing between guns and their ability is splitting hairs. So is it all guns that should be banned then, since it doesn’t matter whether they fire 100 or 800 rounds per minute?
I liked your post because I really agree that antidepressant and antipsychotic meds have very harmful side effects As a matter of fact “ they are blacked boxed” with warnings that say “such medication could cause you to feel more depressed or suicidal “ !!! Otoh many people report that the meds help them function…but have to live with weight gain weight loss sexual etc side effects. Having practiced over 30 years I encourage my patients to use more natural techniques that are backed by science : yoga and meditation
what were they supposed to do? Arrest him? He is a grown man and grown men are allowed to own those weapons in this country
