I remember extremely clearly that Mauldin was one of those picks where ESPN starts playing the draft music for 15 seconds before anyone reacts after his name is announced because no one knows who the fuck he is and he was taken 3 rounds too early. That’s happened to the Jets a lot over the years.
Let's go back to 1974--Jets DB Roscoe Word (one of my favorite names) with 4th quarter INTs in consecutive games to preserve jet wins, the second against the mighty Shula/Griese dolphins.
Really great game! I remember Parcells on the sidelines not being tooooo happy! At all. But great game.....if we can't go, your ass sitting home too!
ya I remember going to Cortland TC to get a look at him. One play Nacho laid it out, 50 yards in the air, and Hill had 5 yards on the nearest DB.....The Nacho rainbow, perfectly thrown, came down in the EZ....Hill had both hands extended looking back at the ball, then CLUNK! Ball missed his 'hands' and landed right on his forearms. All the fans went from cheering a sure TD to having that look of oh oooo.
Who was the WR (years ago) had a great PreSeason, caught a long TD, blah blah blah, we were all excited for him, then I think he didn't even make the team. Probably 15-20 yrs ago....can't remember his name...dang!
Has to be Clowney. Bonus if it was thrown by future All Pro (in some dude on this boards mind) Brett Ratliff.
Ray Lucas -1999 season. Also, Adams has a good chance to have a successfull NFL career, unlike these short term wonders we are mentioning.
Trumaine Johnson had a big pick in his first game with the Jets, then he curiously disappeared with his bag.
Chad Morton - 2 return TDs in a game. One for the win in OT. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200209080buf.htm
Go back to the 70's any time you'd like my friend. I was a fan back then and i remember Roscoe Word but I don't specifically remember those plays. However, the reason I remember his name must be because of those plays.
