    stephen hill.

had 84 yards and 2 TDs his 1st game, then sucked the rest of his career

EDIT: looked it up and it was 89 yards and 2 TDs his 1ts game. after that he lasted only 2 seasons, and only had 1 game where he surpassed 89 yards in his career and never had another multi TD game so yeah his 1st game ever was his best one, and he only lasted 2 years

1989 Colts game right? The Jets took a 10-0 lead into the half and blew it …

Darrol Ray kind of comes to mind he had a fantastic rookie season and played well for about 4 years then kind of drifted off and next thing he was no longer on the team. I think he only played 5 years …. a little disappointing. I don’t recall any injury issues with him either……

And I just thought of an even better one and very comparable to a guy like Adams. John Booty a reserve CB. Played 3 years for the Jets 1988-90 but had a huge role in the Jets first ever win over the Steelers in 1988. I remember him blocking a punt which led to a Jets TD and nudged the game in the Jets favor and later came down with a key interception. He may have been involved in another play too. In those 3 years that is the only game that stands out for me in which he made any difference. A funny coincidence though….

Can I get a "Blake Spence"? That's what I'm talking about. C'mon, you know who he was and it was for ONE play :)

Rex didn’t have anything on Parcells. That dude carried 2 FBs on the active roster at the turn of the millennium.

There were Browning Nagle's 2 TDs and 366 passing yards in his first career start...

He also made that leaping touchdown in the end zone which looked crazy athletic. Amazing that a receiver from the triple option offense who caught 50 balls in college didn’t pan out.

I thought he was mis-managed. As you say, showed incredible talent in that first game but then dropped a few easy balls in the next few games as all rookie receivers do. However, Rex, rather than show some confidence in him, sat him down. Hill never seemed to recover after that.

Maybe but he never played another NFL game after he left in year two. That’s the sign of someone extremely mentally weak if being sat his rookie year killed his career.

Come on already. By now you just have to understand how absolutely critical it is for an athlete talented enough to make it to the pros to nevertheless require being completely coddled until they stop failing.

How bout Lorenzo Mauldin? Caused a fumble and got concussed in the McCopter game against the Browns. Maybe Johnny Football’s professional high point.

Yeah, he was shocking to me in the regard that we saw glimpses of the talent. Strange case indeed. But he gave us that game.
