    ah gotcha.
the other part people are ignoring though is zach sucked the 1st 3 weeks. its only been the last 3 that I've seen improvement. so counting the 1st 3 games in all their "stat proof" is kinda skewing it. but some people just really hate him and can't give credit where it's due.

QB rankings aside... we are ranked 32nd in passing yards per game. That ain't good.
We also bog down badly in the red zone... that's gotta get fixed... like now.

Zach has looked much more in control the last three games... hopefully he can build on this foundation and start moving the ball
with his arm and score some points.

Depending on the defense to shut down opponents every game is untenable... Zach has to restore some balance on offense.

shoot not only is the defense shutting people down it is scoring points itself every week.

yes that is not sustainable and when we play a high powered offense like Miami x2, the passing offense is gonna need to generate something

So while I agree he’s looked better in the last 3 weeks than he has in the past 2.5 years, it’s still not very good QB play, right?

Main problem is we are not getting a lot of yards in the air and we are not scoring touchdowns…both measures of good QB play

Sure, I get some of the circumstances like a few drops or penalties (hello Lazard on both counts!), but to me, that’s still excuse making. He’s not the only QB to get hit with drops or penalties, and if he’s going to be any good, he’s going to need to overcome that shit. So far he hasn’t been able to. We’ve gotten great play out of our D and ST’s and that’s carried us to 3-3, but like many others here pointed out, that’s hard to sustain.

Anyway, I’m very happy to see his completion rate finally get into the league average range for the season, and he had like a 70% rate in one of the games if I recall correctly. Good progress there. Also glad to see he’s not making as many bonehead plays like picks thrown right to a defender or like running backwards for 20 yards like he’s still at BYU. Again, good progress.

I hope that over the bye, we are working on continuing to read through progressions and red zone efficiency. If he can improve those two things, then the yards will come (he’s still consistently below 200 yards/game, which is pretty poor in today’s NFL) and the TDs will come as well.

but I think people are forgetting, he's the backup QB. 1 of only a few backups playing and so far he's been the best of the bunch (outside daltons 1 game) and even better then some of the starters so i'm not sure how much people can ask for?

The back up, who was drafted 2nd overall, there's something to hang your hat on.

you can let go of "2nd overall" we all know he isn't going to live up to that hype, just like most QBs hell trey lance was drafted 3rd and already traded for a 4th and hasn't been active for a game.
sometimes you have to reset expectations

Yeah this is the only thing killing my hype.. if this offense could just be avg I think we can make the playoffs but you can't rely on the defense to keep us in every single game just not gonna happen in today's game. Offense needs to carry their weight.
Tough ask of this Oline and WR group and QB obviously

Imagine buying a car for full price and realizing you only got half an engine and no steering wheel. Then having to "reset your expectations"?

The steering wheel is there, it's just that it's confidence is shot because you keep trying to use it like a stick shift.

Due to some offensive struggles to get into FG range the last couple weeks, Zuerlein has dropped pace of the record. He is on pace for 41 FGs which would leave him 3 shy of the record

I find this completely stunning though. Zuerlein has only kicked 6 extra points all season! By far the least in the league. Jason Sanders of Miami has kicked over 30 more extra points!! WTF

I dont know what the record is for least extra points in a season by a full time kicker but Zuerlein gotta be on pace so we may get a record after all

That's why you should do thorough research before buying an expensive vehicle, to avoid buying a lemon...or in this case a Zach
