I'm not going to talk about any high picks involved (rounds 1-4) or big prized free agents, but I wanted to point out the players he found using pretty much little to nothing assetwise. He doesn't seem to get enough credit for this

    2020
bryce huff UDFA - has improved every year and has shown elite pass rushing skills

guidry UDFA - played a big role in the secondary for us for a while but eventually fell down the chart. still solid depth and on our PS now at a time we needed it

JFM - signed off waivers - has been an above average DE and starting for us in 2021 through now. we signed him to a relatively cheap extension

bryce hall - 5th round pick, started for a while but became depth after we added a ton of CB talent. just had to start last week due to injury and looked great. steal for a 5th rounder

    2021
quincy williams - signed him off waivers, he improved alot for 2022 and got a relatively cheap extension. he's playing at an elite level currently and is signed through 2025 at 6mil/yr

MC2 - 5th round pick and one of the top Ni backs in the NFL. started day 1 as a rookie too.

Echols - 6th round pick, he's our top backup CB currently and has performed well every time. likely a starter on some teams in the NFL

    2022
tony adams - UDFA currently starting for us and just had the game winning INT

DJ reed - ok he does cost 11mil and was signed as a mid tier FA but was a top 10 CB last year so amazing value

    2023
gipson - UDFA, won the PR job and returned a game winner in OT for us opening week

CMG - resigned him for only 2mil a year, and he's our starting center and playing well

Can add Berrios and Pinnock to that list even though they aren't here anymore

...and that pass rusher who's always on the bubble we just cut.....can't remember his name...he was featured on hard knocks. He did pretty good for us seeing how no one wanted him. I know he's cut now (numbers game) but the type of talent JD can bring back in at any time if need be

You're right....JD does a pretty good job of finding talent in the later rounds....this is gonna become more and more important as our draft picks drop into the 20s. No more Sauce, Garrett, and Jermain in the first round. Really need to keep the roster stocked with late round picks too.

yeah I agree with the premise of the thread…I do think he’s done a really nice job with this kind of stuff

He’s also been pretty damn good in trades as well

The only quibble I really have with JD is the OL…for 4 years in, it should be better…I get injuries and all but it’s been 4 years now…it should be better

But I have been a JD supporter for sure and this is a good write up in support of that

true, i didn't think about berrios. i almost added pinock. he's been solid for the giants this year. was good at S for us but struggled at CB

    the DT smart?
and he's hit on a majority of his 1sts. becton and AVT when not injured have been good. sauce, GW are beasts already. JJ was a late 1st (26th IIRC) and breece in the 2nd. really his only misses were zach (and lets face it lance, jones, fields would have been just as bad if not worse so really it was a no win) and mims. but from what I heard mims was a "gase" pick but to be fair breece was a "MLF" pick.

here is the issue, every team thinks that. the NFL currently has a lack of o-line talent compared to the edge talent. when brick was here, he was great. he was a barely top 10 LT in the NFL at the time. he'd be the 2nd best right now. even trent williams the best just got abused by myles garett. niners fans think their line sucks and would be the worst in the NFL without williams.

the reality is we went from a bottom 3 o-line to 5 new starters and an average one now. you have to have some perspective on it.

    Great thread idea @GasedAndConfused

I'd put Quincy at the top of the list after his play this season.
Not only are these "low tier" players playing solid ball... they're winning games for us.

exactly. they aren't just giving us depth, they are starting, playing meaningful snaps, and having impacts. JFM and Quncy were both cut from teams.

How much credit are we going to give to the Jets positional coaches?
Tony Oden - Senior Defensive Assistant & Cornerback Coach
    Marquand Manuel - DB/Safeties
    Mike Rutenberg - Linebackers

Years of coaching experience among them.

At least on the defensive side... which this list is heavily tilted...these coaches have their players tuned up & motivated.

So much fun to watch... :p

the coaches deserve credit for sure. it takes a village to make an NFL player. the player needs the talent and drive and the coaches need to coach them up and the GM gives them an opportunity

He gets the credit he deserves. After 4 year that isn't a very outstanding list. Especially when you consider the money he has spent on FAs.

Douglas doesn’t get all the credit for the UDFAs, but he should get some for sure.

The regional scouts are the ones who grind those UDFAs. Those are the guys who should be greatly appreciated for finding the Bryce Huffs of the world

i mean so is shitting on a GM that took a talentless team and turned them into a top 10 roster probably top 5, that was able to go 3-3 with a backup QB despite facing 4 teams that won 12+ games, 2 of them being the 2 superbowl teams, 3 top 10 defenses and 3 top 5 QBs. perspective is a thing

Ouchy is at least consistent. You see, he thinks he can be a better GM, and any move that he thought was bad he will find any opportunity to shit on to prove his point.
