He didn't really have great QBs outside of Rodgers. Also, I am not really sure what yards per play tells us about him. That he is more conservative perhaps? Also, if we subtract good QBs from any coaches record, a lot of them would not look very good. He didn't really have good QBs aside from Rodgers. And yet he did have top 5 offense in Jacksonville with Bortles. If you go by points, yes he was 32nd in Denver, but he is 22nd right now, not 29th as someone else mentioned. 29th is by yards. He was 22nd by yards in Denver. Plus he was a head coach, and no one disputes he was terrible last year as a head coach. This year though he is in similar situation as MILF was last year. He is 22nd in points and 29th in yards. MILF was 29th in points and 25th by yards. So, Hack is doing a little better, and hopefully with Zach's improvement it is trending up. Though I do agree that he can do a lot better, MILF was a relatively low bar to clear. He wasn't some genius - he had basically the same team and results were worse plus couldn't at all develop a young QB, which turns out may have been possible - at least to the greater extent than what MILF did.
It should be a requirement to watch a minimum of other teams' games before posting about the Jets offense or QB play.
We always complain about we have too many 3 and outs, but we are in the middle of the pack https://x.com/arjunmenon100/status/1714367425158766986?s=20
I didn't vote. I think they are both competent OC's. The problem is Wilson is slow to develop. Hackett may appear to be doing a better job because of tiny improvements in Wilson as he gets more experience, but the bottom line is the Jets are ranked 29th on offense.
He was the scapegoat or a big reason why he struggled? It looks he was a big reason why. The problem with MLF it was about "his" offense and trying to have a young QB run it. It did not matter what Zach was good at or not. If Zach played like this last season we would all be talking how is coming along nicely. We underplay confidence, especially with a young player. A QB loses confidence and does not have the support of his coach he is toast. MLF with his tough love and openly critisizing Zach caused Mike White mania in the locker room. It was not about developing Zach for MLF but his offense. MLF was a more creative play-designer but he was not a good game day play caller, hackett is actually much better. Let's not forget that he had Zach running for his life and almost got Mike White split in half.
I went to bed so pissed off, I don't think I slept a few hours, get up in the morning to head to work, flip on ESPN, to see I missed one of the greatest come backs
One of the few cool Jets games I ever got to attend. Then I got home and watched the tape and saw Arnie predicting the comeback at halftime lol.
I agree Hackett has better people/managerial skills. Zach's problems last year weren't MLF-based though. His problems were that he missed wide open receivers, even on short routes, and threw a ton of bad interceptions. When receivers are open and the QB misses them, it's not the fault of the OC. MLF had Zach running for his life? Not the atrocious OL? What's with this thing of blaming MLF for things that were clearly the fault of players?
He was responsible for Zach's development. You do not see him missing those throws now. Play design and blocking schemes are a big reason Zach and the other Qbs were running for their lives. The line is not that much better this season.
Yes, all those knocking Zach and downplaying the role that his lack of confidence that occurred as a result of struggling to learn MLF's offense for 2 years need to watch this regarding Jalen Hurts: When a QB is put under constant pressure - even an All Pro QB, even one who plays in a system tailored to him, even with good weapons - they're going to make mistakes and look bad. Zach had 2 years of playing in those conditions without a system tailored to him, without good weapons, without a good OL, and yet people expected him to play "like a #2 overall pick". Ridiculous.
Yes, that is all true but let us not act like Zach was not at fault at all. He missed a lot of layups that brought on a lot of criticism. I agree MLF was a big part in the lack of his development. Also look at the flack Herbert is taking. Coaching matters in this league.
When the OC insists on trying to force a rookie QB into completely changing his style of play, and insists on a blocking scheme that doesn't fit the talents of the OL, it's the OC's fault for the outcome. While Zach hasn't been transformed into a FQB under Hackett, the improvement is clearly noticeable, as is the improvement of the OL play despite all the injuries and shuffling. So yeah, much of the blame does fall on MLF.
I know you've been a solid Zach supporter, but what's with the bold? Where have I EVER said that Zach is blameless or doesn't need to fix things? In fact, it's beyond tedious that every time I make a comment that's positive about Zach I have to offer the "caveat" that "Of course he's made mistakes and needs to improve". SMH. So yes, Of course he's made mistakes and needs to improve.
the OL has shown improvement from LaFleur? that's news The blocking scheme is the same, it is a zone blocking scheme
My dad was in town that week and we went to the bar across the street from my house to watch the game....It was all Dolphans & They had some cheap shitty beer keg "all you can drink" special for the game.... at halftime my dad says "I'm getting too old to stay up watch them get their ass kicked"... so he leaves, then Arnold comes on and says "I beeeleeeve in Vayne Chwebet!"...... "FUCK YEAH, THE TERMINATOR!"... everyone starts laughing at me and talking shit... I'm getting shitty. Let's just say the rest of the night was awesome, and work the next day was painful.... One of my roommates said he could hear me doing the JETS chant as I'm walking home from the bar.
Has Zach thrown ANY or MANY screens last few weeks ? I can't remember that many, but if I'm wrong, let me know. I remember Sanchez, with our RB's, throwing 5-7 a game.
I think Zach isn't throwing it in coverage UNLESS he has to -- like on 2-pt. conversions (you only get 1 shot at it). It's basically Mark Sanchez circa 2009-10. Better defense....much worse OL...better weapons.
