The definition in these contexts are so off the wall, assuming Zach is a stud, however the label is only used here, and from Dan Orlovsky, whom gets crucified every time he opens his mouth in reference to Wilson, I'm curious what average, would actually represent?
Yea, I said the druggie could turn things around. Zach Wilson might eventually as well, but he hasn’t turned any kind of corner yet whether he’s shown some improvement or not. He’s a 2nd overall draft pick who plays like a low tier backup until he’s not.
we all know he wasn't worth the 2nd pick. IDK why people are debating this like some people think zach is an amazing QB. nobody thinks that. there are just some who think he's improved form last year and is playing well enough that he can get wins on our stacked team while others still think he shouldn't be in the NFL
I'll own up to having liked Zach as the #2 pick, and still think he might prove worthy - or close to it. Of course I've also freely admitted that I was wrong about how long that would take, or if it will even happen, but I still have hope. I happen to believe that there are certain traits that can't be coached - you either have them or you don't, you can't "coach them up" with these things. Things like speed, arm strength, height. I'd include mental processing speed here too, but while the others are easily measured, that's hard to. And I think that's the one trait that fools GMs and scouts more than anything else. That said, I do think you can improve in that trait somewhat, but you need to be above a certain level to begin with. Regarding Zach, he's got surprising got speed and agility, and obviously a great arm. His height is borderline acceptable. What many have questioned is his mental processing speed. I'm not sure he's really deficient in this area because he's shown times where he's processed things quickly. So what's the issue? I've mentioned this several times, but I think his main problem has been that his self confidence was trashed by trying to play completely differently than he was used to, and LaFleur never took this into account in trying to help him better adapt. The result was that Zach made lots of mistakes and then the harder he tried to not make them, the more he seemed to make, and the less confidence he had, and the more he second guessed himself during the game, which made him hesitate, making it look like he couldn't process things quickly enough. This is why I still have faith. Yes, of course, I could be wrong, I'm not an expert, nor do I have first hand knowledge of what Zach is doing in practice and film study, etc. But I've seen enough QBs play over the decades to know something about what good QBs look like, and Zach's physical traits are in the elite category. I only hope that my theory about his mental processing speed is closer to the truth than that he's just "stupid".
I loved zach too. film wise he reminded me of josh allen who I also loved but was shit on for that at the time. were all right and wrong sometimes. I don't think zach will ever be an above average QB. and I think we move on from him after rodgers is done, but the idea is, he is the QB for this year and what can we do with him at QB. Zachs issue is the hardest to scout and thats adjusting to run an NFL offense against an NFL defense. his arm was never the issue. he's always been accurate but developed the yips somehow and starting dirting easy throws last year. mentally he just isn't there, but I see alot of improvement the last 2 weeks and hopefully he can build on it
I agree with everything except that he'll never be an above average QB. We don't know that yet IMO. Maybe he won't be which will be a shame, but I don't think he's proven that it's impossible.
A couple of you are stuck on the belief that the past doesn’t matter and I’ve said that it does. Progress comes from the work you put in, and I’ve agreed that I’ve seen progress in Wilson’s game. I don’t think he’s the answer, though. Guess I’ll just leave it at that.
In logic, you can't prove a negative. I don't have to prove the tooth fairy doesn't exist. It's up to believers to prove she(he) does exist. Zach has to prove he can be an NFL QB, in fact I'll go a step further, he has to prove he is a FQB, otherwise he's no good to us.
I don't care if you, or anyone else, believes in "the tooth fairy", therefore I don't need to prove anything. Being a fan (short for fanatic BTW), is an illogical pastime. If Jets fans really cared about logic they would've given up decades ago.
it depends what you are looking to gain or what the conversation is. if you are talking about a young human being who develops over time, then the past doesn't matter. a simple way to put it is, We've all probably done stupid and shitty things as a teenage that we would never do today. You can't say "well gasedandconfused got in a bar fight at age 21 so now 20 years later he'll still do it because thats who he is and it'll never change" it's an ignorant statement because we'll it's true I have been in bar fights in my younger days, it's nothing I'd do today because i've grown up. Just because zach sucked for his 1st 2 years doesn't mean he can't stop sucking and those 1st 2 years don't mean much. just because geno sucked for us, then spent years as a backup, doesn't mean he didn't gain the ability to start, because as we seen he's been starting for a little over a year now and played well and made a pro bowl. Nobody is saying he is the answer. we all know rodgers is the QB for 2024 already. What we are saying is what can zach do for us this year. he is the QB for better or for worse. 2022 zach to me would be hopeless and we'll win 4 games at best and be picking top 5, but if he keeps playing like he did the past 2 weeks we can be in the hunt for a wild card spot. thats the point some of us are making. Me personally, as soon as rodgers went down, I said season over, we are picking top 5. and I felt that way for weeks 1-3. but week 4 and 5 zach has me feeling that if he keeps it up, we'll probably have our best record we've has since fitzpatrick and be in the hunt for a wild card spot.
I don't think a QB's ability (or lack therof) to read a defense and have that 6th sense feel of where to go with the ball, when to throw/no throw, when to push it, when to not push it and all the rest of that type of stuff is any real indication of them being stupid or intelligent. Or at least it is not mutually exclusive. There have been plenty of QBs that aren't exactly Einsteins that excel just fine and plenty of brilliant guys that didn't do quite so well. I think its more of an art than a science. The concerning thing for our case here is that when a player has more or less completely proven that they don't have thing ability working for them very well can it be suddenly learned and/or radically improved on? Or is it just one of those things that you pretty much either have it or you don't. Maybe you can sand the rough edges and make little gains here or there but overall you pretty much get to the NFL with whatever certain level of that ability you innately have, kind of like arm strength. I suspect you kind of innately have it and it can't be radically improved on but I'm really not sure.
There was no reason to run any play that wasn't going into the end zone. I was screaming for GZ to enter game. They didnt need extra yardage. This is all on the coach for not kicking. Hust pkain stupidity
First he has to prove that he is a competent quarterback, then he needs to prove he is competent and consistent, then he needs to sustain that before he can begin to be considered a franchise quarterback.
