I think it’s pretty clear that Huff needs to get a lot more playing time. I understand that they like to put JFM on the edge next to Q and push the pocket but Huff looked great last night. I’m not really buying him as some huge liability against the run either. Might not be the greatest run defender but his get off is so good that you can live with it.
We've been drafting to replace him but we need to pay this man. him, JJ, Mcdonald, and JFM are the future. Clemons needs to move inside.
I think it is remarkable that Huff finished that game with 0 tackles and 0 sacks and that doesnt even begin to tell the story of his performance
The Jets have clearly been preparing for him to walk as a FA, but I think you bring him back. He's a year older than Johnson and McDonald, so its not like you're letting an aging vet walk. He's just too good at rushing the passer.
Huff needs to be extended right now. He brings a dynamic, his quick get off, that no one else does. His run defense is better than he gets credit for. He's more than a one trick pony.
He's a beast pay the man his money, admit you fucked up with Will Mcdonald Jd and let Lawson go, JJ and Huff are beasts, they should be our 2 starters barr non. Will Mcdonald was the stupidest pick ever made by JD and thats saying something.
Yeah this is an issue with this FO in general. Very slow with roster adjustments. Tippman, Huff, Ruckert, McDonald should all be seeing the field more or should have been sooner. Idk how other teams make adjustments IN GAME players actually get sat when they're not performing but it takes WEEKS to slowly work players in I just don't get it
No reason we can’t have a young and deep DE rotation. Huff/JJ/Will/JFM that’s solid. Get it done. Let Solly Thomas go and slide Clemons inside.
Lawson only played 14 snaps vs KC. Think the coaching staff is starting to see that Huff needs to be on the field. No reason the edge shouldn’t be JJ/Huff and if either need a break you rotate in your first pick (who played 10 snaps) and can even get JFM some more time out there but yeah, Huff needs to be playing 70% of the snaps. No more 39%.
Nor the penalties he drew and sadly didn't draw that the refs should have called. He was double teamed a lot too. Mahomes was pressured in this game largely because of Huff. That was not the case in two previous games where he did not play much.
I hope JD can do that. Huff will be due for a massive contract though. Basically Huff right now what we hope McD will be one day. And Huff is only 1 year older. We have to extend him. If not, it's like losing a 1st round pick that has actually developed. And play him more for Pete's sake, you have a star game wrecking Edge on the team that only plays 30% of snaps. This is a passing League, and he is fine against the run too. Teams have to game plan and adjust their entire strategy for him. KC did that by double teaming him a lot. And also holding him a lot, which hopefully will be called more against lesser popular teams. Play him more and then extend him, it's rather obvious and has been for a while.
Yes, but their GM picked up a guy who was awesome, and no one was shitting on him once he started playing. Lawson wasn't awesome. Hurt all 1st year, decent, but not great 2nd year, and so far no meaningful contributions in the 3d. The good news is that JD picked up Huff for nothing. Check this out: "From Week 1 of 2022 through Week 3 of 2023, Huff had the highest pressure rate among qualified edge rushers (min. 200 pass-rush snaps) at 21.2%, recording 47 total pressures on just 222 pass-rush snaps: Bryce Huff, NYJ (21.2%) – 47 pressures on 222 pass-rush snaps Rashan Gary, GB (20.5%) – 51 on 249 Josh Uche, NE (20.5%) – 69 on 337 Micah Parsons, DAL (18.6%) – 107 on 574 Nick Bosa, SF (17.2%) – 105 on 612 Trey Hendrickson, CIN (16.4%) – 77 on 469 Myles Garrett, CLE (15.9%) – 91 on 571 Za’Darius Smith, MIN/CLE (15.3%) – 87 on 568 Dante Fowler, DAL (15.2%) – 42 on 276 Matthew Judon, NE (14.8%) – 82 on 553 " What's more is that it is not that he is always fresh on these pass snaps. He got more workload in the last game and had a higher pressure rate, suggesting that when playing more snaps he gets into the rhythm better and performs better. Now, can someone explain to me why Huff is not starting and playing most snaps on the team? He only played 27 snaps on Sunday, and this was his season high. And his running defense is not bad either. Trey Hendrickson is not a great run defender either, even worse than Huff according to PFF. Huff is that guy. We have a star player at a premium position, and we keep him benched. This makes no sense. Give him 40+ snaps, and watch him wreck the game, like Hendrickson and some others on this list do.
