That brings up a point: why is Huff not playing? I know that Billy Turner and Max made JJ look good in training camp, but he has not generated any pressures. In the meantime Huff has one of the highest pass rush wins in NFL, and his running defense is actually good now. I saw him a lot in preseason and in the rushing snaps he played in regular he looked good. He is definitely not a liability there. At this point he needs be starting over JJ. Instead of drafting McD to prepare for his departure, just work on extending Huff. And start playing him more for Pete's sake now. JJ is a solid guy, but Huff is already what you are hoping McD will become. Solid run player and a star rusher. Get the guy on the field - we are not generating any pressures!
He looked pretty good against the run when he got these reps. I think he improved a lot. Seems like malpractice not to play him a lot more.
This defense is built on rotating the front 4. Essentially the we need 6-8 stating lineman, most here know that. I have zero problem drafting a guy like McD at the pick. Someone who has HUGE upside, especially in the middle of round 1. Give the kid a break At the time, we thought we’d be playing with the lead and then closing out games with a vaunted pass rush. Now we have to play games like last week/year to have a chance.
After seeing this guy on Hard Knocks, I figured he would either be insanely good or retired from the league after 3 seasons due to mental health issues. Real oddball type.
I hate to say it but he may be right. The guy is a top 15 pick and he’s inactive. If he’s inactive for most of the season then it’s definitely in the conversation as worst pick, and certainly worse than Gholston.
no doubt, but they've played just 3 games so far.... and I don't think I've seen a worse player than Vernon GHolston
It's been three games and he was only inactive for one. He flashed plenty in the preseason and training camp. I'm not going to get up in arms about him after three games.
I wonder if Joe Douglas gave this any thought when he drafted him.....Saleh probably won't be able to use him much this season for reasons you said. Or was it looking to next season? I think if JoeD knew CD84 was going to retire, he'd have gone a different direction. But ya, really disappointing we cant use him much this season. I guess if he gets a big sack to close out an important game, we'll all feel differently.
THANK YOU this whole huff can't play against the run narrative is overblown. He is one of our top players on a defense that is under performing he needs to be out there more. Forget Zach if we can't get to the other QB we're toast regardless
It should be all hands on deck at this point. I don't get Saleh, who brags about his DL rotation to anyone who will listen, suddenly limiting the reps of certain DL. It doesn't make any sense.
I'm guessing he's struggling with the mental aspect of the game... but can't see why they don't get him in on 3rd and longs "go get the quarterback"... "Can't nobody block me!" Maybe the focus was to get inside pressure based on the QBs they've faced so far.... But I'd thin his speed on one edge with Huff on the other should force some errant throws
That's quite a bold statement only 3 games into his career when you consider just how many poor first round picks we have on the team right now, nevermind all time. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using Tapatalk
Never underestimate the football intelligence of a Jets fan. I'm not referring to anyone in particular. It's just a general statement.
