I'm sure the Pats and their fans said the same thing about Mangini....

If Schott takes the job good for him, granted I'll be disapointed because I'd hate to lose such a young guy with a good offensive mind (he did ride the pine for Spurrier in Florida).

I think it's a bad move by the Phins to have signed Capers to that huge contract, I am of the philosphy that you let your HC assemble his own SC but hey it's Miami so if they make bad moves it's fine by me.

I'd think Capers might have some pull as to who is hired. I don't know if there is a connection between the Schottenhiemers and Capers but if Schott was hired good for him.

    Yes you did champ.

In a crazy way of thinking, if Schott doesnt get a job this year..and has another solid season..he will be good as gone after next season. If hes going to go, with Chad as our QB and Clemens in the wings, if its going to happen I would prefer it happen this year.

The Jets are trying to build a Superbowl program..to compete not only for the playoffs but to go deep most years. This year, the plan was ahead of schedule..but most of us, unlike other fans, arent fooling ourselves. This team still needs a decent amount of parts.

If its going to happen, let it happen now. The worst thing to happen is that the Jets take another stride next year and are getting close and then he leaves. Its a bit of devils advocate. Just a thought.

Mora Jr. isn't really that bad. He brought them to an NFC Championship game and had two down years, but still left with a winning record.

Yes his hot starts and 2nd half downfalls hurt and were embarrassing, but he's still young and didn't really get a huge opportunity in Atlanta, throw in the Vick factor as well.

Good points. I was figuring the same thing about him being "good as gone" next year if not this year. My thought though was that I hope it doesn't happen until next year so that Mangini can soak in as much as possible. I'm sure he's done a lot already, but this would allow him a year to really learn as much as possible from him in preparation of his departure.

I don't know which is better, but both have positives and neither will be the end of the world. I believe in Mangini.

First off, you, not me, should go back and read your posts from July and August. You might want to bring a towel. If it were me, I would break into a little sweat.

And please blitz, dont give me the "I have a life stuff". You were posting on the Dolphin site like a madman according to many around here. Hey, I might not comeback right away either after some of the things you posted in the summer. I do give you a lot credit for coming back.

With that said, I do appreciate your response and your honesty. Water under the bridge and maybe I misunderstood some of your responses back then.

Well advancement is what America is are about. Right? Just ask Warren Buffet. Under the rules we cannot stop him since it is a promotion so if it happens it happens & we will have to deal with it at that time.

Yes on the parts & hopefully they will be new quality parts not unquality junkyard parts say like Kimo as a example

Miami signing Capers for 8 million turns this into the single best HC situation a young OC could possibly get. The hire will become a multi millionaire with very little pressure for at least 3 years. Nice city with good weather and a total commitment to rebuilding and longevity. Any one offered this job is jumping including Schot.

I would be more worried if the Dolphins hired someone who has a good offensive background. Mora Jr. is more of a defensive guy. He has had some solid drafts with the Falcons, especially on the defensive side (which will come in handy since Miami is so old on that side), but he didn't show anything in Atlanta to make me believe he's good on the offensive side. The great running game was in place when he got there, and he installed an offense that was tough on Vick.

I think of Mora Jr. as a slightly better version of Herm.

Yeah I do not know why there is the sentiment he should not take the job if offered. If I was him that door at the Jets facility would never have the chance to hit my ass on the way out, I would be gone that fast. Good for him too. I do not think this is going to faze Mangini one iota either way.

That's absolutely true about the money and opportunity being to good for a young coach to turn down. The no-pressure thing I don't believe though. Dolphins fans are the worst in the business in my opinion in terms of their expectations vs what the team actually does on the field.

I expect that if Schottenheimer is hired within 6 months you'll be hearing a buzz about the super bowl from the Dolphin's fan forums. It'll go something like this: ok, so Culpepper comes back and is working with an offensive genius and the Dolphins top 5 defense seals the deal...

Go read finheaven.com at some point and you'll realize how delusional many of the Dolphin's fans are. Not all of them, there's an undercurrent of reality circulating on the board after last season, but it's definitely just an undercurrent.

The Miami Fans are irrelevant in this. The owner is willing to rebuild and take the heat. Same is true here. If we go 8 and 8 next year or even 6 & 10, which is a good possability, the screaming is going to be loud. I don't believe it will have any impact.

I think the fan's expectations are what ran Saban off. He came in after a 4-12 season and felt so much pressure to win right away that he started trading draft picks for badly injured QB's after he had a surprisingly upbeat first season.

As to our chances, I see 8-8 as not unreasonable at this point and 6-10 as likely only in the event of a rash of injuries. I agree with you that Woody is going to stick with Tannebaum and Mangini regardless.

With Saban I just think the lossing killed him and he didn't see that he could recruit he's way out. I don't really think the fans had an impact on him at all. He just recognized that in college football recruiting gives him a leg up which he doesn't have in the NFL. From my understanding the lossing was to much for him and the reality is the Dolphins have a rebuild project on their hands.

I think we got an unusual find in Mangini, hring with him with such little experience. Tannenbaum knew Mangini well and the educated gamble paid off in our case, but luck still had something to do with it. In our wildest dreams, we didn't expect him to be the man he is. No one did.

But this success doesn't necessarily mean you can get away with this every time now. I know it's a "copy-cat league," but some of these young, fresh, new hires are going to fall on their faces and this will end badly for some teams. I'm not wishing Schottenheimer failure if he goes to Miami, but I'd be very surprised if he can duplicate the turnaround Mangini has exhibited here.

I think Huizenga's off his rocker, to be honest with you. He'd be taking a very risky gamble, IMO. But so be it... he's going to do what he's going to do. The guy is a real douche kit.

I disagree with that. I think next year is our year. I think it is Chad's last year and Chad LOVES Scotty and his system. Absolutely loves it. In that case, i rather them be together one more year and then in two years hand the team over to Kellen with a new OC. Also, you have to remember Schottys specialty is QBs. I think he will also get the most potential out of Kellen and the longer we can keep him the better.

Also, my belief is that Miami has already made their decision. I dont think they would be so irresponsible in that they give a new DC a new huge deal without running it by their coach. If they didnt have their guy i dont believe they would have extended Caper's contract soo soon.

He's still not going to beat 3 quality opponents in a row in the playoffs unless his gun is carrying better ammo than it historically has or he gets either a hellacious rushing attack or defense alongside him.

he previously had those in 04, and still couldn't get the job done.

enough already. just make him the oc and get someone with a real nfl-arm to play qb.

just watch the only championship this team ever one and see what a real arm at qb can do.
