That’s because the idea was Rodger’s would call all the plays whether they want to admit it or not. They lost their QB and OC that day.
So is 24 zach lovers 112 games in his career: “112 games is to early to judge gotta let things balance out were on our 12 offensive coordinator this is the one who’ll save him”
Most fans would give their left nut to have a competent qb starting right now, atleast Daniel Jones is competent, can you say the same about ZW? wanna start comparing the 2?
I have renewed hope when I'm reminded how sharp Zach looked for most of the game before he started pressing when the game got lopsided in the fourth quarter. When you consider how horrendous he's looked from his rookie year you can see he's gradually morphing into an NFL quarterback. It took Rome a couple of days to get built maybe we can afford a few more for Zach.
I think Luke does a great job in this breakdown. I would disagree with him that Zach played well though, the stats just don't back that up. He even mentioned something along the lines of, "through 3 1/2 quarters, Zach played well" and again, the stats just don't back that up. Zach's stats were, 7-14, 116 yards, 1 TD: 4 carries, 36 yards going into the 4th. That's just objectively not good by any metric. Is it improvement for Zach? Absolutely but that doesn't mean it's good. However, I'm glad he's seeing the same thing in regard to Zach's accuracy and pocket awareness/navigation skills improving. The All-22 tape gives you an even better look at the strides Zach's made in those areas. While that might not end up amounting to much, it is definitely worth pointing out, and *could* be a sign of things to come. Way too early to know for sure though because as I've mentioned a few times in this thread, Zach's typically had a handful of great throws in every game, it's consistency that he's lacked so far in his career. He has a couple of really good All-22 looks at some of the plays I highlighted in my breakdown as being good plays for Zach, GW's TD, the back-shoulder to GW, and the incompletion to Lazard (which I thought might have been Zach's best throw all game). I'm also glad he and I are in lock-step on Zach's 2nd interception. It's an interception so it's obviously not a great play but within the context of the game, that's one you can live with. I loved Zach's decision to throw the ball, it was just a little off. Zach put too much air under it and gave the safety enough time to come over and make a play on it. Sucks, but these things happen when you're down by 20 in the 4th quarter to one of the best defenses in the league and have to try and take shots. I especially liked the All-22 angle of the 2nd Breece drop (starts at 6:41 in the video) that we've talked about in here too. Looks like that play was intended to go to GW on a deep curl but Dallas got pressure in Zach's face quickly so instead of making a risky throw to GW, he side steps within the pocket, finds a throwing lane, and wisely tries to check the ball down to Breece who just couldn't reel it in. Like it or not, that is growth from Zach. He's got a long way to go but even the longest journeys have to start somewhere.
Thanks for sharing this. I agree with him. Zach is showing a good bit more progress than I thought he would this early. That's a great sign. Other people don't want to see it because their mind is already made up. In their unrealistic view, a QB is supposed to be a superhero who never makes a mistake, leaps tall buildings, and overcomes any and all obstacles. Any attempt at providing context and valid reasons for less than perfection are just "excuses" and dismissed.
Phil simms was on with the Mad Dog today, and he made a good point. When the game was over, and from here on out when it is, we should just try and jack ZW’s completion % up. “Even if you lose yards on it, we’re in a stats obsessed society. And believe it or not a few games like that (cheap garbage time competitions) and people are saying, “wow! Zach has a 72% completion percentage.” You’d be stunned what a difference that can make in a players psyche. Even if it’s a flawed stat, that’s something he can build on.”
that was a serious point? The Jets should try to complete passes. Phil Simms gets paid to say that wow
Listen, Play like a Jet is a huge homer. Let's just keep it real. He didn't even show the 3d INT, which was the worst one. We can't discount 4th quarter performance, and when you factor this in, Zach wasn't good. The whole team wasn't. But he is right that Zach didn't lose us the game and he did show signs of improvement. Unlike towards the second half of last year, I think Zach is showing some promise to be above bottom 3d NFL QB this year. He is not there yet, and Sunday's game will show us a lot. But there are some signs it could be different this year.
