I take back everything I said. Problem solved. In JD we trust! I mean Cedric is probably better than Max, but seems to have had a subpair preseason according to PFF, plus shitty last year with us. Didn't make Dolphins PS. It would be nice to see JD do something that we haven't already done that failed, though options are limited now. I guess a decent PS signing.
"bare minimum" is using 2 1sts, a 2nd, and signing 2 top free agents in a span of 3 years? also using 2 4ths in back to back years. It may not be working out but you can't say JD hasn't tried. it's not like mac who used a 2nd, and nothing before a 4th and signed no top free agents in a span of 5 years. JD got 4 new starters with premium assets it just isn't panning out
I think it’s more the complacency of assumption that his picks will turn out good. Everyone knew last season Becton wasn’t gonna make it. Douglas did nothing but let out other OT walk for peanuts and then brought in Brown once the inevitable happened with Becton. This year they went in again with not only the assumption that Becton (now 2 years removed from playing football)and Brown (had a mediocre season at best last year putting it nicely, old, and injured) would just step in and be great. Becton looks completely uncoordinated on the right side in pass protection, Brown is a disgrace. Barely the 2nd Q and Brown was straight up sucking wind out there. How do you let someone that far out of football shape out there? How do you go into a season relying on that? Honestly I think JD knew full well that NE was going to screw him out of Broderick Jones. I don’t think he had any intent of picking Jones even if he were available, I think JD truly has exactly the personnel he wanted to be on this OL. That’s unforgivable IMO.
you only have a finite number of resources. JD dedicated a lot of them to the o-line. I know it hasn't worked out. tomlinson hasn't lived up to his billing, becton missed 2.5 our fo 3 years with a freak injury. AVT is great and mcgovern has been solid as expected but an o-line is only as strong as it's weakest link. to say he did the bare minimum is false. he hasn't gotten results but he's gone above and beyond what most GMs have. gettleman with the giants was the same way. they used high picks on thomas and neal. signed soldier as a top FA OT. not gettleman anymore but they used a 2nd on a C this year. they are trying, the results arne't there.
I agree that they won't get fired. Woody may or may not want to, but would cede to Rodgers wishes in any case.
Makes no sense either. Becton finally gets somewhat healthy so they move him to a foreign position (that he dislikes) so they can play an out- of- shape 38 year old who has been in the NFL forever and is coming off major shoulder surgery. Dumb dips.
With the exception of Becton we’re running the same exact OL we ran out last year. It was awful last year, how is it remotely acceptable to just run them out again this year? We can’t kick the tires on Taylor Llewan? I know his knee was jacked but he’s openly said he’s not retired. Duane Brown is the worst OT in the league and doesn’t have the stamina to make it through 2 quarters before he’s huffing and puffing out there, one could argue he’s retired too and just doesn’t know it. Apparently Douglas doesn’t know it either.

I agree, JD did invest a lot and unfortunately his investments were not that great. However, last year he did not invest a lot, particularly at the tackle spot, which was the most problematic. He spent a 2nd round pick on Tipp, but Tipp is a longer term CMG replacement at Center, who was the least of our problems last year. Hence he doesn't even see the field. When it comes to tackle though, JD let go of Fant and signed Billy Turner, who stunk last year, to cheap contract. He had then traded down in the 4th round and selected injury prone older rookie Carter Warren later in the 4th instead of trading up and actually getting a 2nd round prospect who slipped in Dawand Jones. In the 1st he went with McD and had two players rated higher than Broderick Jones at the time of our selection. You don't have to be a GM of the year to recognize that Tackle specifically needed help. And JD put minimal investments in the position this season, that is fair point. There is no way to spin this. Now add another scrub Cedrick to the list, who we already know sucked last year, and sucked this preseason too.
The NY Post is putting out some press on Duane Brown "injury status" that implies he may not suit up on Sunday. If this was politics I'd consider it a strategic leak leading to putting him on IR or something like this. Shit, he has to sit anyway and maybe he saves face with injury designation. Now we need to hear the same for Uzomah and maybe Hackett gets Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Ah, now this explains it. Brown was this bad because of injury to the hip, which he is apparently dealing with now. It's clear we need to bring him back as a LT starter next year to protect Rodgers, since once he recovers from that during the offseason he will be his usual Pro Bowl self. But really, he should sit and wait until he is ready to play. It just sucks that Billy is the next guy up, but Duane is playing horribly and maybe if he actually practices for a few weeks, he might be slightly better. Until then, given how he looked so far, is Billy Turner much worse? As I am asking it, I am dreading to hear the answer to that question.
