I'm already disgusted that Brian Schottenheimner's name has been linked to the Dolphins vacant Head Coaching position. I pray this really doesn't come true. :finssuck:
I read that Brian is not a serious candidtae to become HC THIS YEAR, if marty loses they want to hire Marty and have brian come along and take over as HC in 2-3 years when Marty retires.
First off i don't think they'd block him if that was the scenario and I think signing a deal that elevates him to HC after marty steps down is technically a promotion and I am not sure we can stop him.
If Schott goes to Miami, Culpepper will be gone. No way that dumb ass can handle Schottenheimer's offense.
An old expensive defense, a limp kneed QB, an owner who is hiring your assistants and fair weather fans and the AFC East..tough job.The only worse job then that is Oakland.
Anyone who thinks a 33 year old burner like Schott is going to turn down an opportunity to coach an NFL team based solely on personnel is deluding themselves. And by the way, the funniest thing about this thread is people using DOLPHIN FANS as a reason he wouldn't take the job. ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS!? DO YOU THINK HE CARES ABOUT THAT!?!
I hope you all realize that the arguments being made in this thread for Schottenheimer to turn down the Miami job (or for Miami to hire someone else) are the same arguments that were made last year regarding Mangini. "Schottenheimer shouldn't take the job because the Fins are terrible, their offense is terrible, they have no QB, the team is a mess etc." " Miami shouldn't hire him because he didn't do such a great job with the Jets offense this year, the Jets offense was not so great statistically ( the Pats defense was not highly ranked last year), he is too young, he has only been a coordinator one year." Sound familiar???? Let's not be hypocrites. If Schotty is offered the job he will and should take it - these opportunities are not always there. If the Jets stumble next year, his stock could drop. If the Dolphins are looking for a new dynamic coach and trying to find that diamond in the rough, they should and will take a chance on a young coach rather than someone who has been around for a while. As for the Jets offense, Mangini and Tannenbaum are too smart to hire someone who will change the offense. And the OC is not going to dictate to Mangini which offense is run and who the QB will be. Mangini and Tannenbaum will replace Schotty with someone who will run the same offense and personnel decisions (Pennington vs Clemens, Turner vs another RB option) will be decided by "Tangini" and not the OC.
While I bascially agree with your post I do go on side track from you when it somes to being creative. That is a talent that some have & others do not. If Shot got the MD position then we have the following options finding a guy that has even more creativeness then Shot, getting a guy that is the same level as Shot or if unlucky wind up with a less creative guy then Shot Listening to Miami radio & they just announced that they extended Capers to be the DC for 3 years so whomever comes in cannot choose there own coaches
We are putting this on the Fish but its Shott's choice in the end. It sucks how in the NFL there is no loyalty, even by coaches. It's obvious the Jets are building something here, doesn't he want to be part of that? Even the Pats coaches stayed a while before they decided to do their own thing. If he leaves that will put the offense back to learning a new system, hope we build a good defense if thats the case.
Do you remember what our offense was like last year? We couldn't handle the snap without fumbling. Our wide recievers didn't get in the end zone until like week 15 and the concept of the shot gun was like teaching these guys rocket science. Sure a healthy Chad helped but Chad was miserable the games he did play last year and look how we cut down on penalties and used the talent we have to get the most out of it. I think he did a great job and while category wise we weren't at the top we did well in the scoring department. 20 points a game isn't bad especially considering we only scored 15 a game last season.
I just get the sense that he isn't ready yet to be a head coach. I just don't feel as though he's mature enough to handle an HC position. If they hire him, he's probably going to flop in the first 2 years... just a prediction. I just can't see him evoking any respect from the players ... I don't think he's as smart as mangini either...
I'm still trying to figure out who is gonna make the decisions in Miami, if Schott or another coordinator gets the job, who is the GM gonna be?? The Dolphins are doing everything backwards with this search. They should have hired a GM before hiring a HC and a HC before hiring a DC..
Yes I remember last years O, and that was the point I was making - this years O should have been a lot better than last years no matter who was running the Offense. This years line was twice as good as least years and we had a healthy Chad all year. As far as the reduction of penalties, that was because of Mangini not Schott (remember the penalty laps in TC because of mental errors?) Mangini is also the one responsible for using all of the talent - he instituted an open competition for every position and he ultimately decides who plays and who doesn't. Again, Schott did a good job, but not a great one IMO. I don't think losing him is going to be a great catastrophe as many are making it out to be.
Is it true that Mangini was on WFAN and says he doesn't expect Shotty to come back and that the Fins are so high on him. He thinks he'll be a good HC. True? According to FH posters, it is. http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/showthread.php?t=178879&page=2
We haven't done anything backwards. Randy Mueller was our GM the last time I checked, and from everything I've read he's involved with everything that is currently transpiring in Miami.... We locked in Capers, which was huge, and now after doing a very indepth search, we need to hire a head coach to replace Saban. Brian Schottenhiemer is the current front-runner....
