I have checked PFF. Jets have the second worst pass blocking in NFL with overall grade of 42.5. That is very bad. Becton is the only one who is not terrible with 60 grade. Everyone else, including AVT, sucks, particularly Brown and CMG. This passes the eye test too. Even AVT has not been good and Becton has been the best we have so far. The situation is pretty dire when it comes to pass pro whether you look at analytics or just watch games with your own eyes. Unfortunately our back-ups are not that great either. Tipp is probably going to start soon by replacing CMG. But Billy and Max were bad all offseason. Wes wasn't good either in preseason, especially at pass pro. Against TB he was abysmal at protection, total garbage. And AVT struggles at Guard pass pro, is it really going to help to move him to tackle now? It's not like last season when he was awesome at Guard and was good at tackle. This year he is struggling too at easier guard position. It might have something to do with CMG next to him though, who appears to have declined. Overall, it just seems like there are no good answers, we just need to hope the line gels somehow with time and maybe bring Tipp in. Maybe rookie Carter Warren when he comes off IR can provide some boost? At this point I am ready to try anything that hasn't already failed in regular season or preseason. Or perhaps JD can bring in someone like Connor Galvin off Detroit PS. The guy went undrafted due to poor athleticism, but actually played well in preseason after having a great College Career. Pickings are slim... Here is to hoping.
Can we get an opinion from someone with both eyes open and a full, operational brain? How about from a forensic accountant?
Hey guys! Heads-up We played the Bills and Dallas D. Both are very very good. Right now Cowboys ranked No 1. and Bills No 6 per ESPN rankings. The crazy thing we play Pats (#4), KC (#8), and Eagles (#2). Zach better grow up or else season will be over. We gotta go 3-3 to save the season.
I wouldn't make book we win another game this season ..seriously! At this point Houston might beat us There are 3 ways we can lose: poor OL, poor QB play ,and most important poor coaching/game planning. Like every Defense, even the Jets top D, will be burnt out by the third qtr if they are on the field most of a game 3-3 really?
I mean those stats don’t show that they are good, even without much context. They’re ranked bottom third or lower in essentially every category. The rankings are right next to them. McGovern has been trash and I hated that they re-signed him the instant it happened. Why this CS is being so stubborn with Tippman given the struggles is beyond me. Also someone else made a point about the OL gelling. I feel like we’ve seen this same song every year of the Saleh era. The OL sucks beyond words the first few games and then marginally improves. What makes no sense to me is it’s the same core group. They’ve played together for 3+ years.
Sometimes the fans can make a better evaluation than these NFL teams. For example, there were a lot of people saying early that yes, Duane had a shoulder injury but he also did suck in a major way last year and has been regressing even before that. Maybe he regressed because he was old and not just the shoulder? Which would mean that being a year older, and coming off major surgery without a training camp probably would make him not the best option to start at LT. And again, this is not hindsight, these things many of us were saying well before the season started. But sometimes when you are close to the guy, it actually makes it harder to make unbiased evaluation. Same with Uzomah: many people wanted Ruckert to be ahead of him before the season. He finished the year strong and had a great camp. Particularly in blocking, but frankly even at receiving he is probably already better than Uzomah. In blocking though they are two different stratospheres, and with this OLine it is even more crucial. So yeah, some things make no sense, but NFL teams still do it and turn out to be wrong time and time again. After seeing this OLine perform year after year, I don't think we should be saying "In JD we trust" at least when it comes to OLine.
What do you guys think about La'el Collins? I have no idea about his medicals, but looks like Cincy waived him when they signed Orlando and saved on CAP. Seems to have played decent last few years: https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/lists/bengals-releasing-lael-collins-fans-confused-reactions/ Perhaps could be stashed on IR if still hurt but might come in handy later in the season. I recognize he is no superstar, but at this point, just not too many options, and he may be better than what we have...
This is so blindingly obvious to most people it's preposterous that Douglas and Saleh counted on him coming back and being effective. I would love to hear their truthful explanation of this, but of course we'll never get that. So, in the absence of anything that would help us fans understand what seems so obviously a major blunder, we're left with considering Douglas's judgment and fitness for the the job at this point. This multi-year travesty of poor OL play has to end NOW, and if Douglas can't do it, Woody needs to find someone who can.
I don’t believe in curses or hexes. This team isn’t cursed, it’s owned by the dumbest fuck in the NFL now that the dumbass in Washington is gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if Woody is meddling his ass off in this. He might be the worst owner in all of sports outside of Dolan. And I’m including all the cheapskate assholes in that list.
Right now we should be bringing in every option. We should be scouting the Canadian league, AFL, XFL, Euro Leagues, local parks, behind dumpsters, anywhere. We apparently need 2 OT’s, a G, and a C.
Agree. That's the biggest problem with Saleh and Douglas--too loyal to high-priced vets who stink. Herman Edwards had the same problem. Brown, Tomlinson, and Uzomah couldn't block my 90 year old mother in law. Carl Lawson was absolutely invisible against the Cowboys. Randall Cobb is a shell of what he once was. All of those losers got the playing time Sunday while Tippman, Ruckert, Gipson, Hardman, and to a lesser degree JJ and Huff didn't get enough snaps. And of course while Sean Payton continues to call out Russell Wilson for his poor play, Robert Saleh constantly finds excuses for and constantly praises Zach Wilson. Bad draft pick in Wilson, and poor free agent signings in the others, but the jets will never admit it or bench them. At this rate I don't see the jets winning more than 7 games in 2023, especially with Zach Wilson over center.. Thank you, Joe and Robert!
This is not true. JD has been committing substantial resources into the offense, but has missed badly on many occasions. He has done a better job on the defense.
Saleh is still selling Zach Wilson to the fanbase as the GM will never admit the mistake of drafting the kid in the first place. Too bad all of his efforts are to no avail. God help the kid if Hackett sets him up again to fail with deep drops and slow developing plays. Zach has to play as if he has nothing to lose mainly because, he doesn't.
JD and Saleh will NOT get fired after this season b/c Rodgers signed on to play for them and Rodgers wants to make a comeback next year.
You’ll take Ogbuehi and you’ll LIKE it! https://www.profootballrumors.com/2023/09/jets-bring-back-t-cedric-ogbuehi#ref=home JD continues to do the bare minimum on the o-line
