I think you have to take Calvin Johnson. You saw how taking the defender worked for Houston. Get someone who will impact every offensive play. The only other real candidates for the top pick are the two QBs and the OT. I don't approve of taking a RB so high due to their short lifespan and ease of finding. I mean we found Leon in the 4th, we can find starters later.
Depends on how bad we were. With this team, and the way they played? Gaines Adams is a no brainer. If we don't see the emergence of Jerricho Cotchery, etc. the pick is Calvin Johnson.
Joe Thomas would be a nice pick, imagine D'brick at LT and Thomas at RT. Our o-line will be set for the next decade.
In the long run could we afford to pay two top 5 draft picks at the same position though? Economically speaking it would, in my opinion, be a horrendous choice because in 4-5 years we would almost def. lose one just as they are hitting their prime. Of course based on needs and who would be the biggest upgrade, Thomas would probably be either the second or third best. Adrian Peterson being the biggest upgrade and Thomas tied with Gaines Adams for how much they would make the team better.
Calvin Johnson, no doubt in my mind. Can't remember a prospect as "can't miss" as he is. Watch him play, all aspects of the game he excels. As a MD fan, giving up 8 catches and 150 yards was having a good day, because he didn't make any "game changing plays"
Yea, I kinda meant with this team, with us just magically getting the 1st overall pick......... I would pick Calvin Johnson, actuall jump ball catchers like him are hard to come by, meanwhile RBs you see in the draft every year......
I'd have to go Adrian Peterson because that would be the biggest improvement at that position. Sure we could take an OT, but we already ahve one, sure we could take a WR, but we already ahve two 1000 yard WRs (basically), sure we could take a QB, but then what do we do with Clemens. We take the RB.
I like Brady Quinn. I think Weis has done a good job making this QB similar to Tom Brady however the Jets don't need a QB because of Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. Therefore I would trade down to the 4 or 5 spot to get Gaines Adams or Alan Branch.
Peterson or Branch, based on need. Branch would be a great fit in the middle of a 3-4 defense, and Peterson would be a huge upgrade at RB. If Adams fit well in a 3-4 as a pass rusher, he'd be a good pick as well. Johnson might be the best prospect in the draft, but we really don't need him.
I'd say Jemarcus Russell of Lsu he gonna be the next best qb thing Quinn is over rated. Jemarcus is a natural and with his height 6'6" and he can throw 80yard bombs stand 60yards on his knees and 40yards sitting down now thas pure power we would need to stretch the football field.
