I really hope schotty doesn't get it. That would be a BIG LOSS. However if we do need to reaplace him I am sure Mangini will find someone who can do a good job and keep the playbook creative.

Well that makes sense as far as the Assistant HC thing goes. But it's too bad for the Assistant Coaches - the coordinator position is the stepping stone to the HC job (with a few exceptions - Herm being one of them and we know how that worked out). The NFL should have made it 3 levels, but I'm guessing if you're an assistant you sign short term contracts.

Why is it a BIG LOSS? It's not like we were a top 10 offense. Schott did a good job, but not an excellent job and as others have said Mangini had his hands in the O as well. Lets see how he does in year 2 if he's still with us before putting him in the Excellent category.

What run game did Schotty have? Considering all of the offensive problems prior to the season and 3 new starters on the line, 2 rookies...He did a very, very good job. And his playcalling was very good.

Very few QBs can run the offense the Jets ran this year. I'd like to see dumbass Daunte or equally inept Harrington try to master this playbook.

Shottenheimer was good, but there were several games where the play calling was simply bizarre--Cleveland was one them.

Why do they want our OC after one good year, the Oc on the colts what about him.

I'd be pissed, this offense suited chad perfectly... Wtf

Any high powered offense will render chad pennington useless, and I love the guy.

    It's gonna happen.

Schottenheimer will be announced as the Dolphins new head coach on Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest.

Jets FO is already huddling to figure out who the replacement is. And I doubt very much that they're particularly worried about Schottenheimer leaving.

Who the replacement is will tell us a lot about who is likely to emerge as the Jets QB out of camp next year. An older guy (40+) with experience working in a vertical attack means Clemens is favored. A younger guy probably means Chad is favored for another year at least.

Chad's arm is suspect, not his head, and people under-estimate how much Chad's experience and intelligence had to do with the Jets offensive recovery this year.

Schottenheimer is going to get down to Miami and Culpepper, Harrington and Lemon and have to make a very strong hire at OC to keep the Fins from floundering on that side of the ball next year.

Theres no way Mangini gives up a first rounder for Turner. Shottenheimer could do all the talking he wanted to. Not a chance.

So basically, B.shott becomes miami's HC if SD wins....
If SD loses, marty will be fired, take the miami HC job and B.shott becomes there O.C.... either way, we are losing him to miami.

I was under the impression that Cowher would be the Phins coach in the 2008-09 season and that the Phins would hire a 'puppet' coach for one year until Cowher is ready to come back to the NFL.

If Shottzie leaves, it would suck, but I think Mangini knows he can replace him...

Nope. The only way that B. Schottenheimer leaves is if he is offered the Dolphins head coaching position. Otherwise he is still under contract to the Jets as OUR offensive coordinator. He can't break the deal with us except to take the promotion in Miami.

They wouldn't. He can not leave for a lateral position only a promotion.

Even if SD wins it is not a certainty he gets the job. He is a finalist among 4-5 other candidates. There are some other strong possibilities as well as him.

he goes not just as OC, but also gets slapped with the title Assistant coach. If im correct, which im not quite sure i am, but if i am, thats not a violation because it would be a promotion.

First off - I said Schott was good but not great. I don't want to see him go, but he can and will be replaced by as good or better OC by Mangini. Tangini already have a short list and plan in place so I'm not worried.

    As far as your analysis:

Schott had a line that was at least 2x better than last years even with rookies. The rookies happen to be 1st rounders so you would expect immediate contributions. Last years line included an over the hill and washed up Fabini, Mawae was out half the year and forced Kendall to be out of position, and Jones was starting the other tackle position who was this years backup. Also, Martin was injured game 2 and was ineffective after that. So the line this year could only be better, and the running game at least the same if not better. Also factor in that Penny played a full year this season as opposed to 3rd and 4th stringers playing QB from game 4 on. The Offense could only be better.

So the question is how much better was the O and how do you evaluate the OC? IMO Schott gets a good but not great rating. We got shut out twice this season as opposed to once last season. The offense was better overall, but I wouldn't call it a great offense considering the changes between seasons. The play calling was better than we've been accustomed to, but I wouldn't call it great. How many times did he call that stupid backwards lateral play that did nothing all season and cost us big time in the WC game. Also, how many times did he have Smith on a lateral/reverse play after teams already figured it out after game 3?

Again, he had some good play calling, but some terrible play calling as well. He was a good but not great OC. If he stays with us next year, I'll be happy and lets see how he progresses. If he leaves I'll be disappointed, but I have full faith that he'll be replaced adequately if not better.

I just had this conversation in another thread with JetsIn2004. Apparently, any assistant coach under contract can be blocked from going to another team unless it is the HC job. This was made a rule in response to teams giving coaches the title of Assistant HC to avoid losing them to another team for a "promotion". Instead of addressing the problem fairly, the NFL incorporated a policy that you can only be "promoted" outside of a HC job if you're not under contract. Go figure.
