Let’s be real here. This unit is in dire straights. 4/5 current starters are likely gone after the season Brown, Becton, and McGovern-Free Agents Tomlinson-Likely cap causality At some point I’d like to see if Tippman can be an effective C/G, Becton could play LT, Vera-Tucker at RT, and maybe even see if Mitchell can play. For this team that’s going to be run first now it may make sense to give Tippman (bigger and more athletic) some burn over McGovern who really struggles to get to the second level.
We need to get something out of this season. I’d like to see some long term pieces on OL emerge. Hoping Becton, AVT, and Tippman are keepers.
I thought Brown was the biggest screw up of the off-season for the Jets. I get the coaches really liked him for playing hurt last year, but the guy sat out the entire training camp and made it so the line had no time to gel. They should have brought in a starting tackle who was ready to go from jump.
Tomlinson needs to go. Brown will retire. Tippman, Tucker, Becton and then use the 1st pick to get a tackle and then trade for another guard. Mitchell sucks and should just stay as a backup.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Bahktiari comes here next year. He’s got a $40MM cap hit next year so about $21MM savings if they cut him. If the Packers cut him loose there is zero chance he is not signing with Rodgers.
Whatever happened to the minimum post count to start new threads concept? Would really come in handy about now.
Can't even focus on next year until we get to the bottom of how Aaron Rodgers got a surgery appointment so fast.
He would have to sign for peanuts with the Jets, because we will have around 22-25 (I forget the exact number) FAs, 7-8 of whom are starters, all of our Safeties are FAs except Adams, and Q is the only DT we have under contract, and the Jets won't have much cap space with which to sign their draft picks, sign their own FAs that they want to keep, much less sign outside FAs. If Rodgers wants Bakhtiari, he'd better give the Jets back some more of their money. Plus, Bakhtiari is often-injured, and getting up their in years (31). If JD signed him then he went down for the season like Rodgers, JD could kiss job goodbye. The media and the fanbase would rip JD apart for signing yet another older, injury-prone OL rather than drafting an LT or moving Becton back to LT and drafting a RT, and rightfully so.
This is probably most likely scenario. Tippman will be the C. AVT stays at RG. Becton most likely re-signed but not sure which side. The Jets will need a new LG and another tackle. I’m expecting them to go OL in first round. They will be busy in FA too at that position including improving the depth.
