While I'd HATE to lose Schottenheimer, one thing all reports say is that Mangini ASKED Schottenheimer to run the no huddle, it wasn't necessarily his idea. I really don't know, but all reports say Mangini ASKED him to run it... so I'd ssume our offense will have that aspect even if Schottenheimer leaves

Noel Mazzone, our WR coach, was the OC at NC State for Phillip Rivers and when Cotchery was there.

He left, went to Ole Miss, and was fired after 1 season. HIs offense at Ole Miss was terrible, ranked 111th in the NCAA, but this was after ELI and withv a non throwing QB running his offense...

He will at least get a look from Tangini if Brian does leave....

I'm not one to spread rumors, and I don't have anything official to report at this time, but down here on local sports radio, they're saying that Brain Shottenhiemer is now the front runner for the head coaching job in Miami....

Just wanted to pass that on, and don't take it personally when I say that I hope we hire him. We need a young, offensive minded head coach down here, and I think Shottenhiemer {although young / inexperienced}, could eventually get things turned around for us. Anyway's, just thought you'd like to know the latest word down here. Nothing is official at this time however.....

Tannenbaum said in the paper they already have a short list of OCs if they need one.

This is a disaster waiting to happen if he goes to Miami, for the Dolphins & Schott Jr. I don't think he is ready to fix that mess in Miami. I know people were saying the same things about Mangini last year but it is just different.

For one thing Schott is 3 years younger than Mangini, which in and of itself is probably not that big of a deal but his pedigree is a big deal IMO. Mangini won 3 championships as an assistant & studied under two of the best HCs of our time for 10 years. And probably the biggest obstacle for Schott is there is no Tannenbaum in Miami, who is gonna make the decisions over there?

I'd hate to see him leave but I have no worries that we'll replace him and run the same type of O. Mangini was the brains behind the O, I am very confident he would find someone to carry out his vision for the O.

I hope for his sake & the Jets sake that the Dolphins go in a different direction, which in the end I think will be the case..

Schottenheimer's dad is one of the best HCs (regular season) out there too so that'll help him.

However, make no mistake, Mangini had his hands in the offense. This isn't the Herm Edwards "Offense, what's that?" regime we had. Mangini came from the Belichick cloth..... he has his hands in EVERYTHING.

There were too many years of the can't Hackett offense and the Dinger disaster last year that many people around here got overly excited when a compentent OC came along. Schott did a good job but not a stellar one. I think he's getting too much credit because of the recent years of mismanagement. I don't want to see him leave, but I have faith in Mangini to find a good if not better replacement. Plus the fish will be in disarray for years to come beacuse I don't think he's ready now for a HC position.

We have to hope the eagles lose tonight because their QB coach Pat Shurmur is a front runner to replace Schott.

This would suck. Also, very few people thought it was possible when I mentioned this a few months back.

Better hope he doesn't have a contract for 07, because if he does. the Eagles can deny permission.

    I'd prefer a NON-WC offense guy.

If Schottenheimer goes he goes. There's nothing the Jets can do to hold him so there's no point in worrying about it.

For the record I think his departure would have very little effect on the Jets offense next year. In some ways it might help because you'd get a second set of eyes looking at the young players on that side of the ball. I don't expect the Jets offense to be all that good anyway, maybe moving up a few slots to just above league average from just below it.

For the Fins it's gonna be a huge question mark going into the season. Just like Mangini was for us this year. I tend to think that a couple of years in San Diego and a year watching Mangini probably has not done as much for Schottenheimer as 6 years of watching Belichik and his coordinators did for Mangini. I just don't think the Dolphins are necessarily getting a similar deal to the one the Jets got in Mangini. Now throw in the fact that Schotty will have to deal with an established older coordinator in Dom Capers and I think things could get dicey for them.

It's not out of the realm to think both of them might be gone after next season and Cowher on his way in.

We've run more of a run and shoot offense, then WCO offense. Most West Coast Offense's aren't very shotgun friendly, when we often used the shotgun.

    In Schottenheimer You Trust?

I think Don Shula is the youngest head coach ever. This Sarkasian guy could be the youngest if Oakland does infact hire him.

Hopefully we hire someone who hates the WR screen as much as I do.

OK - now I'm confused. I thought a team could only block lateral moves, not a promotion which this would be going from QB coach to OC. Or does this only apply to a promotion to a HC job?

You can't block an assistant coach going to be a HC.

You can block an assistant coach moving from 1 team to another to be an assistant coach. NFL did away with LEVELS of assistants.. There are basically 2 levels now... HC and NOT HC.

So, while we all know going from QB Coach to OC is a promotion, it is not reason enough to be able to talk without permission.

They did this because teams were making coaches assistant HC just to block moves..
