(No, it's not too early to discuss this. Shut up.) There are several strong and obvious arguments for "No, he's not coming back. He's done." He's already won a ring, won the MVP's, first-ballot HOF, etc. He'll be 40 and coming off a devastating injury that will require a prodigious effort to rehab, and for what? One more year? MAYBE two? He doesn't need it. He was already half-retired, to hear some people tell it. So peace out. Having said all that... I think the answer is yes. He comes back. I think the man just ain't goin' out like that. He's too proud. Too confident. Too committed. Too intent on proving the doubters wrong. He was also -- unless he was lying -- living his best life right up to the moment of his injury. He described it as like a waking dream, where he couldn't believe it was real life. He was as happy as he'd ever been. 2023 is not a make-or-break year in terms of the cap, as far as I understand. The team is loaded with talent, and will remain largely intact next year. And presumably the OL -- our biggest weakness -- will be improved. (Of course we say that every year, but one of these years it surely must be true!) If he retires now, the whole transition to the Jets is just fodder for sad memes for years to come. All the hype. All the merch. The potential glory. That ridiculous house he bought. Just eating all that... it cannot taste good. He's such a fierce competitor. I believe Aaron Rodgers will do his best to take the field for the Jets next September.
I think he does. And hopefully we hear of it soon, I think it would make a difference in the team this year not only to know he plans to come back, but to have him around.
Yes. And the 30 for 30 they create about him hoisting the Lombard in 2024 is going to be fucking glorious.
I think he will, but who knows what a year off will do to his skills. Didnt work out so well for Le'Veon Bell. Im not so sure if knowing he knew would happen if Aaron wouldnt just have retired instead of this.
Side note, this years hard knocks will probably be the least replayed season ever. Not even a fan base that's pain tolerance is infinite, nobody is going to want to watch a hard knocks that was about Aaron Rodgers going to the Jets.
Yes he does. ESPN had a great physical therapist on and she said doesn't matter if it's football he still needs to do this rehab if he wants to do anything in life. I expect with the support of the Jets and everyone here he will come back and try again. I dont think his competitive spirit is lost, she also said he his Achilles on the left foot which isn't the dominant foot for him as a QB. I just hope he rehabs and stays close to the team
Just thinking of that shit depresses me. With every episode, I thought why am I letting them do this to me again. Then I was all hyped for the season.
only winner here is woody who sold the hype of ar, jacked up ticket prices , sold those psls, and seasons tickets only to fleece us jets fans yet again with a inferior product, say what you want about the guy but he is a genious, time and time building us up to think we will be relevant only to see the team still is dysfunctional. Imagine shelling thousands of dollars thinking you will see the a top 10 all time quarterback play for a season only to go and see maybe the worst jets quarterback of all time. If that ain’t bait and switch I don’t know what is.
hey at least he used his coupons and got the guy to take 33 percent off. Like I said pure genious. Get a guy for 100 mil somehow convince him to take 35 mil less and bilk the fans for 3x more, no wonder he is a billionaire dudes a genious
As an older person, I would say the odds just might be against him playing again. He's 39yo with a torn Achilles tendon. It really doesn't matter what AR might want to do, its going to depend on how quickly and permanently his body heals. The older you get, the slower you heal. That's just the nature of things. Mentally, his pride may prod him into making one last appearance on the field but, there's no guarantee all the rehab in the world can have the effect he needs to play at a high level. Breece is a lot younger and it still took him putting in super human effort to return at the level we saw last night. If he comes back in '24, hats off to AR. That's a big big IF and father time just might have a say in how this ends.
Will all depend on how he rehabs. I believe his head and heart will be all in to try everything within reason to come back. Especially with how he ingratiated himself to NY and the team, I believe he will play again for the Jets...
so jd basically traded Elijah moore, this years 2nd which will probally be top 10, the rights to Broderick jones for 4 snaps of Aaron rodgers and 75 mil in dead cap space? He sure fleeced green bay!
You have to factor in Woody wanting his trophy QB. I suspect the entire Rodgers episode was driven primarily by Woody Johnson wanting to make a big splash after last year's debacle. The pressure clearly now is on Douglas to fix the OLine. There's no other option for JD to follow if he wants to keep his seat cool.
he failed 3 off seasons in a row why trust him to get it right the 4th off-season be clearly has shown he has no clue
My worst case scenario already happened, so my next worst case scenario is that he comes back and lights it up for the first 3 games of the 2024 season, then re-injures the Achilles in a non-contact fashion and retires 2 weeks later. Things can't help but get Jetsy.
A youthful spirit, C. Until that friggin’ Mac shows up again, this time married with kids, reminding us all of our ages. I mentioned in another thread how the mental recovery will be tougher. Dude was pretty indestructible over the last 20 years. Played through just about every injury, concussions included. Pretty rough day when you suddenly realize you ain’t that guy anymore. I mean, that’s what I hear. I’M still good, of course.
