How confident are you that the offensive line, as currently constructed, can protect Rodgers?

I was reliably told (on this very forum; probably somewhere in this thread) that the offensive line was "fixed" and Douglas is an oline "guru" and not to be questioned by us peons.

Yes, and knowing that we have a 40 year old at QB, you don't just run it back with a garbage of the OlIne we had last year. He swapped Fant for Turner. That's it. Josh Jones got traded a few weeks ago. There were some options in the draft. Dawand Jones slipped to 4th round. One Jet Drive making him look like a genius playing chess with others playing checkers when he predicted Pitt take Broderick Jones and having two other guys over him. Well, who did you get? Turner over Fant, that's it. Old Brown had to come in and start without practice off the injury after sucking last year, because Max and Billy are even worse. And off the Left Tackle too.

It pains me to no end to see this injury when this season SB was not out of the question because of Aaron. Then JD goes onto the podcast and without being asked is saying how good the oline is. Now that's playing checkers. This sucks.

How did I know that everyone would be blaming the OL for Rodgers injury?

Both times Rodgers got hit, it was on him. Becton and Brown executed cut blocks, meaning the play is designed to be a quick hitter and the ball is supposed to immediately come out, which is why you cut block, to bring the defender's hands down and not let him bat the ball down.

Hate to talk ill about someone who just got injured but the injury is on Rodgers. He's gotta get rid of the ball, dirt the ball if you have to and take the penalty, but when your OL expects you to do one thing and you don't do that, hard to put too much blame on them. Rodgers even had GW wide open on the play he got injured, throw a low ball to him if you're afraid he's gonna get smacked across the middle but you've gotta get rid of the ball there.

A lot of truth here. IMO both those plays demonstrated why Tom Brady is the GOAT. He gets rid of the ball on a timer on those plays and doesn't take the hit, or if there's no play and he's trapped, he goes down safely and avoids injuries. Rodgers's decision-making is at least as much to blame as the block by Brown.

Someone on the game thread said it best - the Jets best LT was playing RT.

We all knew the line was suspect. But also, rodgers was trying to do too much. Just take the sack man. Damn . Shit was too hyped , even for him.

Becton had an up and down performance with some good plays in the run game. I want to watch his plays in greater detail before I fully judge him, but I dont think, under any circumstance, I want him diving at the knees of the defender.

The dude is 6'9 with long ass arms he should be using that to his advantage and not folding those long arms in to throw a shoulder at a pass rusher

    Here's the thing.

We don't know they were supposed to cut block. We can assume.

    However.

It's a really hard sell to me when the fucking guy has been in the league for fucking ever and a day. A first ballot HOF QB.

Who, should probably understand this shit better than anyone else on that field.

.. but as soon as he puts on a NYJ uniform, he all of a sudden becomes incompetent???

    Doubtful.

Yeah. I know we all want someone to blame right now, but this is fair.

It also makes me think back to Wilson starting his rookie season under immense pressure which led to developing some horrible habits. Zach isn't good, but he also started his rookie season in the worst way possible from a protection standpoint.

It's a recurring pattern with JD-crafted offensive lines. He always thinks they're fine when they're awful. Blows my mind.

This is fair, but the OL didn't look good the rest of the game either. I believe Becton gave up 3 pressures and Brown gave up 4. The pass protection has been a constant issue since JD took over. It's remarkable how little it's improved over however many years.

Some tweets from some high level NFL analysts are saying that was the playcall. To cut block on the edge with two oversized tackles, fuckin Hackett, i'll tell ya

Yeah. I've seen them now. What a disappointment. Hindsight even.

After It didn't work with Becton on the right side, It's baffling they would then try It again with Old Man Brown on the left.

OL was not great last night, but also not nearly as bad as I was expecting. Bills have a good defense. I wasn't expecting them to play like the Cowboys or Eagles.

    I do have a couple questions/concerns though:

    1) Who made the call for these dopey cut blocks. They didn't work with Rodgers, and they certainly wont work with Wilson. He doesn't recognize the defense fast enough.

    2) How long until we move Becton to LT. When he's healthy, he's just a better player than Brown. It is what it is.

    3) I don't watch the OL much, but I have a hard time believing Tippman doesn't crack the best five offensive linemen on the team. Lets get him in there.

You can assume all you want. However, Duane Brown literally said it was a cut block when he was interviewed at his locker after the game last night.

On top of that, every receiver ran a quick slant or a flat. That sound like a play that should take more than 2 seconds to execute? The ball should've been out as soon as GW made his break inside.

If this were Zach Wilson, everyone and their mother would be criticizing him for not making the throw to a wide open GW. Granted, Aaron shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Zach due to his accomplished career but Aaron made a mistake and it cost him, and most likely us, the season. It's a tough pill to swallow but it is what it is.

Well, on the positive side, at least we get our 1st rounder back this year.

Maybe that'll go towards OT, although it should probably be a QB if we're being honest.

Salah also said it was a cut block on the play and the ball was supposed to be out in the post game presser last night...

The Jets had plenty of opportunities to address the offensive line but didn't. You should draft an offensive lineman every year. Especially with Becton being sketchy. This just shoots me back to Vinny Testaverde. The jets load up for a deep run and Vinny goes down first game.

You cannot sugarcoat the situation. The Jets have been grounded on Day 1. Nobody is going to remember the good things the offensive line did. They will forever be known as that line that let Rodgers get folded up and lose another season before it ever began. But hey how bout that Gipson guy.
