Seeing forecasts for a bitch of a winter this year in the NE corridor. Lotsa snow being forecast and they keep mentioning this will be a La Nina winter pattern. Not exactly sure what that means so I'm asking you weather gods what you think? Did get to use the Ariens last winter but I suspect this winter will be different. Good thing I'll be retired and won't have to be out in the weather!!
Congrats on retiring, Cman! My first official day of retirement was yesterday, and certainly knowing that I don't have to be anywhere at a particular time is one of the perks I am looking forward to.
I think it’s in El Niño mode. Usually warmer ocean temps, leads to more moisture and fuel for storms. Temps won’t be as frigid , but if cold enough , a lot more snow.
In other news, 70k on acid and shrooms are witnessing burning man turn into aqua man. wonder what kind of sickness will emerge from this
The official starting date for this thread is December 25, 2010. We’ll cut Jay some slack for ditching his family on a Christmas Day to post in the BS Forum. Plus, I actually started this thread by merging and renaming Jay’s weather threads, so it could have been me ditching family on Christmas. Either way, 12/25/10 is the official thread date, which now sits at 17,247 posts and 784,422 total views. I fix that at ±3.72 posts and ±169.1 views per day over a 4639 day period. At that rate, this thread should reach 20,000 posts on September 16, 2025, and 800,000 total views around December 8, 2023. With all that in mind, a few thread-related prop bets for amusement purposes. If you can’t help yourself and want a few cheater’s notes you can highlight the hidden text after the red arrow. ►By 12/8/23, the Jets will have 12 games in the books, with Houston, Miami, Washington and Cleveland left to play. Aaron Rodgers averaged around 217 ypg last season. Factored into the numbers below are the additional times you'll click into this thread to either gloat or to artificially pump-up thread stats. Yeah, sure, these hints aren’t anything special. But this isn’t about me, it’s about you and your lack of self-restraint. You just HAD to look. Over/Under - 20,000 posts by August 31, 2025. I see that there hasn't been any discussion of Hurricane Otis here, but there probably should be. It went from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in one day, and none of the models saw that coming. If this is the new normal, that would make hurricane models useless (there's a reason why the National Hurricane Center is calling this a nightmare scenario). https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/25/world/americas/hurricane-otis-mexico-intensity-surprise.html This sort of thing is particularly troubling for the Gulf, since the water temperature in the Gulf in August and September is similar to that around Acapulco now.
A tropical storm in December. I guess we will call it a nor-Easter . Gusts to 60 and 5 inches of rain today.
@stinkyB What is this I am hearing about highest snow total in New Jersey in 2 years for next Sunday's storm?
Dunno... havent looked. Nothing but football and beers yesterday You guys even get snow last year? it was pretty warm
Last years snow was not anything significant. Last 2 winters has been warm for us. Can you take a look if you don't mind?
