I’m with you, and this is an absolute perfect scenario because it makes us better now and the contract would be structured so that we probably aren’t saddled with it once our window closes. And at the end of the day, a third round pick in 2024 is not going to make or break the post-Aaron Rodgers era. If you were to tell literally anyone that you could have Aaron Rodgers and Mike Evans for a first and a third I think the answer would swing overwhelmingly one way.
For fans who don't think JoeD would go as high as 3rs/$80m for Evans, it wasn't too long ago JoeD offered 3rs/$90m for Tyreek. Anyhow, Evans is the type of weapon Rodgers took a paycut for.
The problem I see is that it’s not crazy for the Buccaneers to see themselves as potentially grabbing that division. Much of the SB winning roster is still in place albeit older. And the division might be the worst in football top to bottom even with the Saints adding Carr. Like or dislike him, Baker is still probably the second best QB in the division before Bryce Young does anything.
Good post. I agree. Another problem with trading for Adams, is that he would have to become the #1 WR and G. Wilson would get moved to #2, and that could stunt his development, although what an amazing passing attack we'd have with just those two receivers. I also wouldn't want to be in the place where we'd have no high draft picks for years. That would mean that our team would move back towards mediocrity and suffer a few down years as we wouldn't be able to replace players with topnotch prospects or upgrade certain positions. Evans could slide into the #2 WR spot, and getting him at a cheaper price is definitely better. Perhaps TB would accept our 3rd round pick and Brownlee.
Is Evans Anquan Boldin - like? Now there's a guy I always respected and regret we never had him on our team. I don't know what made me think of him just now.
If we were really struggling then the price for both would escalate rapidly. The time to trade for Evans would be now when we're not desperate and TB has a deadline.
I believe in building through the draft, but I don't think this is the time to hang onto draft picks and look to the future. A third round pick in 2024 or a 2025 second round pick would get this deal done. Evans would complement the receivers we have and would give Rogers absolutely tremendous offensive firepower. We could go toe-to-toe with Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Miami, Philadelphia, and anybody else. Let's get real folks: either the Jets are all in to get a Super Bowl title in the next two years or they're not.
I can't agree to the heck with life after Rodgers. I don't want to be one of those teams that gets to and maybe wins a SB, but then rapidly declines and doesn't even get back to the playoffs or is one and done the following year. It may not take more than a 3rd with TB up against a tight deadline. We could sweeten the deal by throwing in Brownlee which would give them a replacement for Evans.
The reason I asked is because of the bold in this post. I figured that it was just a typo, but wanted to make sure. Players can ask for crazy money.
I don't think Tampa can be that shallow. If they want to try for the 7th seed with no answer at QB while they risk losing Evans for nothing (or paying him way more than a team who is about to rebuild should pay a 30 year old) then that's bad management. A top pick while adding more picks and opening up cap space is a far smarter path. You're not wrong that they can potentially be in play for the division but if it were the Jets I'd hope they realize that does absolutely nothing for you.
Perhaps. I don't keep up with news around the NFL. I spend all my football time on the Jets. The reason I asked is the typo in your post. I figured that it was a typo and couldn't be right, but these days, players are getting crazy contracts/deals so just wanted to clarify.
Definitely, it it's just the one draft pick and he got us to at least one SB, and he could help get us to two or three during that time.
Michael Nania @Michael_Nania Teams cannot receive a compensatory pick earlier than the 5th round for a player with 10+ years of experience (https://overthecap.com/collective-bargaining-agreement/appendix/V…). This is Evans' 10th season. Should motivate the Bucs to trade Evans instead of letting him walk 8:28 AM · Sep 1, 2023 · 6,758 Views
Maybe it was that hit by Smith that caved in his face? I never saw the face but the players reactions to it told you it was ugly.
