Earlier this week, I was thinking about maybe thinking about the jets cutting Boyle and taking a flier on another (younger) QB cut from another team. Boyle out that to rest with a nice game last night. But, I agree with those who say we are in trouble if Rodgers goes down. Zach started out poor last night, then got into a nice groove for a while, and then missed a wide open receiver running up the seam. A sure TD usually, but Zach's pass was in another area code.
Simplest and most likely way to break this down: On offense we’ve got 1 spot between Brownlee, Kuntz, or a 10th OL. On defense we have 2 spots between Ashtyn Davis, Dean, Converse, Surrat, and Pita T. Or just 1 spot if we keep 26 offensive spots. I don’t think there will be many surprises beyond that. Hopefully we trade Carter. Zero chance we roster Boyle.
He’s cheap and has one more year on contract after this. We not going to get much bro. A 7th is better than nada, and I think Knight north-south style offers something different for the roster.
Zach did not start out poor. He got zero support from his OL and his WRs. Rodgers badly missed a wide open WR too, no criticism of him?
Uhm…Rodgers has EARNED the goodwill to carry him over a couple of missed passes, and oh yeah he led a beautiful TD drive too Can’t put those two guys in the same sentence
Surely this assumes Gipson already made the roster as wr5 right? I can’t imagine Joe D gives up on Davis. Davis has to have some sort of blackmail in JD lol I wonder if Lawson gets short term IR. Super strange injury going on with this guy. Saw him run two weeks ago and he was stiff as a board
Uzomah's going to be here next year. When they restructured his contract earlier they year they added a bunch of void years (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cj-uzomah-16883/). Void years only make sense if you're going to keep the player, otherwise they all accelerate when he's released. Also, I think JD is playing the supplemental draft picks game, so he wants to keep veterans that will sign with another team through the end of their contract to pick up those supplemental draft picks when another team signs them. Mosley is interesting - he's got a dead cap hit of over $10 million next year (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cj-mosley-14426/), so if they continue to value him highly (even though he's very overpaid), I doubt they cut him after this season. Saleh loves Lawson and when they restructured him earlier this year and he took the paycut they also added a bunch of void years (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/carl-lawson-21858/), so while his contract is up, the Jets might very well try to extend him if they can. It also wouldn't surprise me if they decide to keep some of those of those others playing on 1 year deals if they play well and the beauty of the 1 year deal if if another player signs them after the year early in free agency then the Jets will get a supplemental draft pick.
Rodgers had that pass where he missed high to Uzomah and he did not look happy with Uzomah afterwards. As a pass catcher you do not want to get in Rodgers' dog house he will ignore you for weeks
My guess on your scenarios: Offense - Kuntz but it could be short term if a decent OL gets cut elsewhere Defense - Davis and Surratt make it
Bam has been more productive than Carter at times. That fumble probably was the nail in the coffin for him though.
possibly but it is hard to tell at this point. They can't be cut (negates Mosely) and they have to sign with someone else (iffy on some of the others). Additionally and it goes by net gained/lost so we dont know if the Jets will sign a bunch of players next offseason to negate the picks or not.
Good thing we got McD then! I worry about these kind of vague back injuries….could be nothing major but could also be significant time
