I am not a Zach fan at this point in time, but I dont get the criticism after last nights game. He was 11 for 18 w no ints. He had two potential downfield big play passes dropped. He made a great catchable pass near the goalline under heavy pressure on that 3rd and 3 and the receiver did not make the play. Yeah, he had one big downfield miss to an open receiver, but other than that I thought he played quite well, especially considering we really had no running game to take the pressure off.

That being said, Boyle does look a bit more in command of the O in terms of who should be the backup, but Boyle was doing it against third and fourth stringers so I really have no opinion yet on that issue.

Zach was playing against second string. He is not the answer for backup

Struggled to move the offense against a backup defense. Missed open reads and throws. Soo much more improvement needed. Looked like the 5th-best QB playing last night.

You seem to imply if ZW was in the same situation he would have tore it up. Thats utter bullshit. He would have looked like he always does. Give Boyle credit where credit is due.

Rodgers is healthy. The regular season is upon us. Yet here we are still talking about Zach Wilson. Truly head scratching.

If Rodgers goes down would Boyle really make that much a difference, if any? We already know that cutting Wilson doesn't nothing in terms of cap space (it actually hurts us.) Trade? I'm sure if someone offered JD a 3rd he'd do it. Fingers crossed.

Rodgers seems happy to be here and happy to help Wilson. He said as much. I'm not really sure what else there is to say. I'm hoping that now the preseason is over we can focus on the starting QB and the upcoming season.

Zach looked good, not great, but solid. He made some passes that all his doubters said he can't make, and had a few good passes that should've been caught - including a TD - dropped. He's definitely still a work in progress, but the key word their is progress, which he's showing. Rodgers has certainly had a positive impact on him.

All that said, it's still not certain that he can become a FQB. He has the tools, and he has shown flashes, and his development was definitely stunted by how the Jets handled him his first 2 years, but he needs to show that the "lightbulb" has turned on, and begin making more splashy plays the way that FQBs do. Of course that's not all on him - players around him, the OL and receivers , need to to their part, but good QBs elevate those around him, and so far I haven't seen much of that with him - again, there have been flashes but nothing consistent. If he wants to become what they drafted as - a FQB at least - he need to do more than just be competent. I think he still has the potential to get there, but at the same time he's not a rookie any more. "Time waits for no man", and in the NFL is time compressed - it's probably closer to "dog years" than human ones - and no matter how much people like or believe in you, if you don't deliver in that short window it closes - ask Trey Lance.

Yesterday was another step in the right direction, and gives hopes that he can actually become what he was drafted to be, but he wasn't drafted to be just competent, or to be a backup. Even though it was just a P.S. game, and even though Zach was competent, I was hoping for more. Maybe he's been assured that his job as QB#2 is locked in so that he doesn't feel the pressure he was put under when they made him the starter right away, but he should know that no matter what the coaches say, he needs to feel the urgency of his situation. If he does feel it, he doesn't show it, not like Boyle or Tommy DeVito, who played with a sense of urgency which also seemed to energize their teammates.

I know I'm inviting more "Shit on Zach" comments simply because I'm trying to be objective. So be it. I think I've summed where Zach stands at this point, and while I still think he can become a FQB, the "clock" is ticking and it won't wait for him. Tick tock Zach.

He's certainly NOT Trevor Lawrence but, he's not Christian Hackenberg either. Zach is in that Twilight Zone between really good and really sucks.. Can he make the transition? It took Geno 10 years and it might take Zach that long. Will the Jets wait that long is the question.

Hey CC - really good post overall. My only disagreement is that I think the FQB ship has sailed for Zach, at this point I think his upside is to just be a starting caliber QB down the road.

Sorry to disagree. Time will tell us how good ZW will be, but i am personally convinced the staff regards him as heir apparent. So, a backup for 2 to 3 years, than given chance as starter. As i have said before, although we cant erase the last 2 years, if this was his first year i would be overjoyed with his pre performance. Unless the staff totally misevaluated him, he can progress to competent starter. But who really knows. I dont think most posters look at him objectively, already citing him as failure. I tend to toss out the past with him. It is a totally new situation.
Moreover, i have seen every QB since otto graham. They ALL make bad passes. What makes a great one is limting the bad. Zw needs to play whole games for anyone to judge, and baring injury thats next years pre.

I think Zach will eventually wind up on a Geno Smith timeline to being a quality starting QB. It will take years and most likely a different uniform for it to happen.

I agree... but I don't think it will take that long.

He's playing a lot better but he needs to see the field better and see the options post snap.
And he needs to set his feet better... he is still throwing behind receivers on crossing patterns.

this was the ONLY reasonable hope a Jet fan could have had. maybe he gets better? that'd be amazing. NOT counting on it, though.
