49ers looking to trade Trey Lance

Who knows what they're seeing behind the scenes, but I doubt they'd get much value for him now. I would keep him and see if he can develop more. He was injured for much of his NFL career to this point and was a project even before that.

 

First, good for Sam. I only watched a little of him in preseason but he looked decent.

Second, how fucking awful was that Niners trade?? Before anyone starts screaming "Brock Purdy" you have to remember how damn lucky they got with him. Don't tell me they drafted him to be their 2023 starter. Trading 3 first round picks as well as a 3rd to take Trey Lance is as dumb, if not dumber, than anything a Jets GM has ever done and that includes drafting Vernon Gholston AND Zach Wilson.

That organization has a golden horseshoe shoved up their ass. They hit the lottery with Purdy and honestly I hope the fucking floor falls out beneath him. No team should be able to survive such an awful move as the Lance trade.

Trey Lance is worth a look. Someone is gonna get him for peanuts. Really big, athletic and really smart. Hes only 23, he's a good project to take a chance on

 

North Dakota State is known for producing superstar QB's.

His cap hit for this year is 9 million and next year it's almost 11 million. There is the option for a 5th year. His contract is guaranteed.

You add all this up and he's worth a conditional 7th. Go get him, JD!!!!

So we're looking for a team that's willing to play him this year in order to be able to make a call on his option (or basically do-or-die in '24) and also needs to do all the install work on him after pre-season has effectively ended.

They also have to figure themselves not in the running for a top 2 position next draft, not have a franchise QB or young gun they want to evaluate already onboard plus have the cap space.

In return they get a QB that has basically played one season of D1 Football with next to no NFL tape.

You seem desperate to excuse the Zach Wilson pick, which was worth the same 3 first rounders.
I’d say ours was worse, as the 49ers never put all their eggs in that basket.
Between Garrapollo, Purdy, and now Darnold, they always had depth and options.
We traded for Flacco to ensure no depth, competition, or mentoring.

What does Zach Wilson have to do with the Niners trading 3 firsts and a third to move up to #3 to take a guy that played football in the Little League college football division and had a total of 318 total pass attempts while playing there?

Zach pick was the equivalent of 3 firsts in value as well, obviously. We could have made that same trade.
