I get the feeling that keeping Bawden has a lot more to do with special teams than it does offense. The Jets have made roster construction particularly difficult for themselves because they don’t really have a choice but to keep 9 defensive lineman at minimum and will likely keep 10 unless they release Bryce Huff. Very few of those keeps will play special teams. I don’t think he particularly loves throwing to backs anymore than the next quarterback. The Packers decided to prioritize the position more than WR 2 and 3 so he had to rely on tossing the ball to Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams. I think you said it on another thread but he seems like a likely trade candidate. I don’t really get how they’re going to keep 4 backs unless Breece is on PUP. Bam’s the much better downhill runner and they just took the kid out of Pitt.
I agree with this. For me, it's either go with one less WR or one less special teamer. Zach Kuntz is claimed by another team in a new york second if the Jets cut him. He's a God damn athletic FREAK. EVERYONE sees his potential. If the Jets want to keep Kuntz, and I'm sure the Jets do, someone else gets cut. I think it could be a WR or a linebacker....
as is Huff. If he was a FA this offseason, i dont think it would be that much of a stretch to have seen him get a similar deal like we gave Lawson 2 years ago. Someone is going to take the chance that with his pressure rate and an increased role, he can easily be a double digit sack guy. Unfortunately for us we arent going to be able to pay him what someone will end up paying him.
IMO Bawden is a lock. I hate carrying a FB but when you hear what the coaches and players have to say about his importance to the team, it's very easy to project him making the roster. I do think there will be some surprise cuts like maybe Zach Kuntz and/or Bam Knight. I do think actually Yeboah deserves a spot over Kuntz at this point (and Kuntz can ride the PS) but unless Ruckert's injury is serious I think there's a good chance they carry 3 TEs. Would prefer to trade someone like Conklin and keep younger talent though.
I disagree that Kuntz gets cut. I know Yeboah played better than Kuntz, but the fact is, Yeboah is a known commodity. We already know what his ceiling is. Kuntz has untapped unreal potential. I don't care that he had 2 holding penalties and he looked like a shithead. His potential is off the charts and he's a perfect 10 athletically speaking. They can add muscle to his body, teach him technique, and all of it will stick. Kuntz has the potential to be Mark Bavaro X 2.....
Seeing Jets castoff getting picked up as starters on other teams is something I'm not used to! Having too much talent is a good problem to have...other than cut down day that is.
Im wondering what in the world is going on with Davis. Is he u happy with his role, looking for a trade?
I wish we knew too. If only we had 9+ beat writers, unprecedented national journalist coverage and an entire documentary program on HBO dedicated to Jets training camp…. Then they could do their jobs and provide the answers to your question I’m sure
Maybe because now we’re about to go into the final preseason game and there’s been no sign of him. It’s about timing, not about you
Someone (I think on this site) hypothesized he's been offered a pay-cut or he can try the market and he's figuring out what he wants to do. This makes a lot of sense imo.
If Davis is healthy I want him out there. That's just me. And if anyone should take a pay cut it should be the guy with the 21 mil cap number <cough>Mosley<cough>
