. His coaches haven't done him any favors.. MLF and now Hackett. Honestly, I think Rodgers probably was the best QB Coach the kid has had since he's been in the pros.
I'm not liking what I have seen from Boyle, that's for sure. It seems like every pass he throws, he is leaning backwards.
I wish they could bring someone in but idk how. Joe Douglas slept and missed that one. You’d like to have a decent backup when your QB is 39 years old and your offensive line is shaky
Minshew was the guy to target with a very cap friendly contract and the ability to make things happen when the pocket breaks down which is to be expected with a shaky O line. The Jets don't have a true QB plan because the Jets brass has no idea how to evaluate QB's which is why the Jets only move was to sign Rodgers for a win at all costs season or a few. At some point this franchise will have to find a front office guy who really understands QB's.
If JD and Saleh weren't committed to trying to resurrect Zach - something which I know you don't believe can happen, and yet they do - signing Minshew as a backup to Rodgers as you suggest would've made sense. The fact that they didn't do that should prove to you that they're committed to the Zach Wilson Resurrection Plan. You can continue to bitch about that or try to adapt to it and try rooting for it to work. But constantly shitting on Zach here on TGG isn't going change anything. But if Zach fails like you're sure he will, at least you'll get to say "I told you so!", which is even better I guess.
there’s a little more to it than that… like for example, Wilson’s contract. If they were committed to Wilson they wouldn’t have benched him and traded all those draft picks for his replacement. the staff is done but they are gonna say all the right things cause his guaranteed contract keeps him on the roster. And I suspect the owner likes him for non-football reasons but that’s a whole other story
If I had to bet at this point I'd put some $$$ down that Darnold will be in the league longer (from this point forward) than Zach Wilson. I get that strategically it makes sense to take shots at landing a FQB because if you can manage to hit one there is no greater boon to an NFL organization but given hindsight now what a squandering of resources that pick was. Hopefully Rodgers can stay healthy and then maybe decides he's having such a good time he pulls a Tom Brady and just keeps right on going for another 5 years or something. To be honest there probably isn't any particular reason he can't as long as he feels like it and doesn't take any catastrophic hits.
Even if his contract is a major consideration, nonetheless it's caused them to make that commitment. But they would not have done that if they didn't think there was a pretty good chance Zach would turn things around if they finally did what said they were going to when they drafted him. Regardless, they're committed, whether you or any of the Zach Haters agree or not.
In all honesty how do you know how anyone at the Jets "feels" about Wilson? Certainly you're not basing that on what they say to reporters, are you?
Who even knows if Minshew or a Brissett for example would have even wanted to come here. They both went to places where they could have potentially started. No one knew if Colts would start Richardson or if Wash would role with Howell. I think just assuming those guys would have sign here is ridiculous.
Who knows if they're waking up in the morning? You can play that game all day but the fact that the Jets didn't even look at a viable backup like Minshew is typical "no idea how to handle the QB position" Jets and that is the ridiculous part. You want to roll with Zach Wilson then go for it. He's garbage and the eye test doesn't lie. All the fanboys on here can say otherwise.
I think Zach sucks, I’ve been pretty open about that. If Rodgers goes down the season is over anyways so who cares.
I hear this whenever someone brings up backup QB and I think it only applies to marginal teams like the Jets have become in the past. It doesn't work for a contender. Rodgers is almost 40 years old playing one of the most violent games in the world, he is a built-in injury. The Jets should be planning for him to be out a few games or they are stupid. That means winning games without him.
The Jets are worried about a lot of things this season Zach is not one of them. It looks like they feel very comfortable in the roll that he is in .
I agree. Last year we faced something like 5 backup QBs. It is more likely than not that Rodgers misses a game at the very least.
Apparently, Rodgers thinks Zach can be the guy once he retires. Rodgers sees 18-20 years of great Jets QB play with Wilson as heir | theScore.com
