It appears based on how much he was used yesterday that he's going to make the team. So who's roster spot do you think he takes 4th TE? 4th RB? Safety? ST?

My point is, this current roster is loaded with talent. IMO, there's going to be plenty of players cut from this roster that are very good players in their own right. I was never really anticipating that they'd keep Bawden because it seems like Joe Douglas has no interest. Joe Douglas never took a FB in the draft. I would have thought he would have taken one in the draft or signed one through free agency?

So I ask you, and of course the biggest roster issue everyone thinks is the OL, what do you think will happen with Nick Bawden? Will they carry a FB? If so, who gets cut to make room for him?

I think Bawden makes the team.
CJ, Conklin and Ruckert at TE and try to stash Kuntz on the practice squad.

I may be crazy, but I think I saw him line up on the line yesterday to block.
I remember thinking what is number 48 doing on the line.

    It’s a good question posed.
It seems the team plans on more 12 and 21 personnel (2TE sets and 2 RB sets).
I’m all for that, especially with Oline concerns.
JD has also signed Bawden 3 straight years, last year he hit the IR.
So I do think he makes the team. Hoping it’s for more than 3 snaps a game to make it worthwhile.

That would make 5 RBs, unless Hall starts on the PUP.
Most likely 6 WRs, and a good chance for 4 TEs.

In order keep all the above Id think we go 26 on offense this year instead of 25.
Even still, that’s contingent on Becton and Brown healthy, cutting Turner, and rolling with 9 Olineman.
Also only keeping 2 QBs. Boyle to PS.

On D I think we can accommodate the reduction to 24, especially if we doing more 4-3 Under fronts as base (I may do another thread on that thought).
That would leave 10 DBs, 10DL/Edge, 4 LBs.

So to me the wildcard still remains Oline production and health.
If that’s not there, either Bawden, a TE, or perhaps even Carter could lose their spot. Or Hall starts on PUP.

yeah its interesting…I get the feeling we’re keeping all 4 TEs…OJ, Conklin and Ruckert should be locks and I don’t think they’ll be able to hide Kunitz…he played well last night from what I saw

Unless they trade someone like OJ?

Wondering if Carter at RB could be a trade candidate also.
5 RBs wouldn’t be necessary if Hall ready week 1. Knight and Izzy look good.

And if he not ready, PUP him and punt the decision till reactivation, when someone else bound to be injured to take an IR spot in his stead.

I too agree that he will be on the roster. A good fullback can make lives easier for our QB, and RB.

We need Kuntz to come down with a mysterious ankle injury and IR him to start the season

That’s possible too, but does nothing for his development.
At 6’8 wondering if he could contribute in red zone packages.

    Ha!

Wouldn’t be the first time one of those mysterious training camp injuries hit a young player…

Since the opening of camp, Bawden has been getting too much play to not make the roster. I don't recall even seeing anyone else taking snaps at the position and Hackett's offenses have utilized the fullback going back to his days at Jacksonville.

I do think Bawden makes the roster and I don't think it's a matter of "who do you cut" unless you're also cutting someone to keep your kicker. It's a position in the offense.

Bawden could turn into a clutch component, but he needs to be versatile to justify his spot. Hoping to see him used as an outlet as well.

Doubt they cut the “veteran” of the group at RB.

Many times the reason to keep a vet RB is their ability to pass protect as a 3DRB. I think MC1 is kind of useless in that area.

This is the year that Joe D has to eat his pride on the draft picks that didn't pan out that well. I think Michael Carter and Ashtyn Davis may be final cuts.

It is frustrating to me that you would keep a lesser talent just because Hackett has to have an obsolete position in his offense. even if the innovative Nathaniel Hackett can't live without a 1980s FB, just make Yeboah or Ruckert an H-back so they can see the field.

A coordinator should make his system fit to the talent he has not the other way around

Perhaps, but there are other considerations. The Oline and the Rogers influence; this offense is as much Aaron's as it is Hackett's. If Rogers wants the FB as an extra blocker next to him, he's going to get what he wants. Ruckert will be TE 2 before too long, and Yeboah isn't built for that role.

Rodgers loves throwing to running backs and Carter is a great receiver out of the backfield.

He’s going to flourish in that role now that he has a QB that can accurately get him the ball.

Carter has played one more season than Bam Knight.
If they feel they need a veteran they’d have to sign one.

If they rolling with what they have, it’s a matter of keeping the guys who are performing the best, and/or offer something different (pass pro, receiving, short ydg, specials).
