About even. Boyle threw and INT, but he had better accuracy and hung in the pocket better, but Zach showed improvement in areas he needs to and also had a TD. Given that Boyle is a vet who knows the system it doesn't surprise me that he did pretty well. Zach had at least one pass that should've been PI, and while he still needs to improve, I saw improvement in his reads and throwing (mostly) where and when he needed to.
I think what he showed today was "credible", but he needs to become capable of leading this team to a SB. IDK if he can do that, but I saw definite improvement today.
I like the way Zach played, overall he did good, kept it conservative, had a couple of passes off, but also had 2_3 on the numbers that receivers dropped. Far more poised and organized than last year, and he played against a starter defense. Our starting first quarter OL was not very impressive in my opinion.Zach seems to be going in the right direction. Boyle hung well in the pocket, but the interception was ugly.
Zach played well against 3rd string and camp fodder , still nowhere close, to where he needs to be, hopefully he learns and developes under Rodgers, Aaron certainly seems to be trying to improve him.
Thanks for this. I was watching on HULU and had the Carolina announcers - man talk about homers! It was hard to listen to. Anyway, as I said, most of his throws were on target, a couple weren't, and a couple should've been caught (even if they were tough...the ball was thrown were it couldn't be intercepted), and a couple could've been PI on Carolina - that throw to the EZ on the left side that would've been called back anyway because of the tripping call, but still, it was a good throw and only the PI allowed it to be broken up.
The throw on the tripping call was late - bad throw allowed a defensive play. Play on a 3rd down to Brownlee that shouldv'e been PI was also late which allowed the defender to close. He's still not able to throw a WR open at all--- has to see and process that the WR is open, and then hit him, rather than see reads and trust/ anticipate and make an accurate throw. Still a lot to improve on if he's going to be a servicable or better NFL QB.
I think the chief takeaway from watching Zach today is how quickly he was able to get the ball out and be efficient with his throws. He wasn't perfect still slinging those side armers that go nowhere fast. But, overall a definite improvement, he can only get better.
Agree, but Wilson will have to start finding open WRs down field at some point. Nevertheless, I liked what I saw from Wilson today.
Do you have any idea what you just said? You are calling their starters camp fodder. Did you actually even watched the game?
I don't think those throws were that bad or that late. That said, if I ask myself would Rodgers (or Mahomes, Burrows, and any of the other top QBs make those throws, I honestly have to say yes, probably. So that's the measure of what Zach needs to do to become a good (FQB) QB. I think the more he gets to throw in game situations, the better he'll become. It's too bad that he isn't at that point yet, but I think he can get there based on the improvement he's made so far.
Disagree. The play to Brownlee hit him in the chest. Should absolutely been a catch. This is the NFL, receivers are not wide open all the time.
This was a better outing for Zach. Looked better composed. His ball placement is still work in progress.
What's continually interesting to me, is how Zach's "goalposts" are always moved, by the usual suspects. What I saw tonite from Zach, was him efficiently running a vanilla offense... seemingly structured as a lesson in QBing101 for him. Most of his passes were short, quick, timing patterns. He stood in the pocket, & was generally decisive. Not much off-schedule heroball stuff. Basically, the simple stuff that he was criticized about not doing, he's starting to do - - the easy stuff. For me, after all the crap he was given to execute over the past two years, that he's showing some progress, is a nice surprise. Very few QBs with the start Zach went through, ever get out of that hole. Nobody knows how it's all gonna play out, but as a Jets fan, I'm encouraged by his ability to start bouncing back, from a once seemingly bottomless hole. He's got a lot of shat to shed, in order to become a fully-functional NFL QB, & so far he's taking the baby steps he needs to. I expect that next week, there'll be more focus on a mid-range passing game, with the addition of WRs into the mix. Lookin' forward to see how Zach responds. I'd actually like to see how he responds to some adversity... I'd like to see him bounce back from a bone-headed INT. .
Yes looked better…completion rate was good…no big mistakes…still a few throws that were bad placement but all in all much better. Led a TD drive…no picks…would have liked to see a bit more but yes better overall
He looked alright, but he also looked alright in the 2021 preseason too. Actually better than alright; he had a super impressive game against the Packers then. He's good at pitch and catch, at least until the defense rattles him and then he can't do that either. But preseason defenses aren't designed to rattle QBs, so it's impossible to tell if he's progressed unless he gets into some regular season games.
FWIW Saleh said the INT was a miscommunication with the WR. not that it makes it any better, i mean most INTs are miscommunications in some form
Other than their D-line, Zach was playing against their starters the first drive and still led a FG drive. Boyle was playing against 3rd and 4th stringers.
I agree with this to a certain extent. When Zach made a mistake he could not get it out of his head which actually made it worse. A bit like my golf game. We also forget he is learning a new system and hopefully being coached the right way this time. I actually loved all the screens Hacket called.
