I will never back down that we should have kept Mike White and traded Zach this offseason. It was clear to me early last season Zach doesn't have the potential to start in this league. Mike White is still relatively young and showed us the most QB potential of any non veteran QB we ever held and words cannot describe how pissed i am he went to the fish. I will be rooting for Zach but hard knocks made him look better than he's been. He just doesn't have QB intelligence. I think Joe D keep Zach and not Mike White had something to do with Joe's ego not wanting to have the stain of one of the biggest busts on his draft record but ultimately it was the wrong decision. We have Aaron now and it's gucci but we could have lined ourselves up for franchise QB stability for over a decade, especially if Mike White got to learn behind Arod instead.
I said it towards the end of last season in a moment of frustration. I had hit the wall of negativity of posters here and the screw ups of the Jets.
He will be showcased more this next preseason game. I want him to do well so we can sucker somebody to take him. Sign Carson wentz
White definitely had physical limitations, but he more importantly he had the "IT" factor.... whether or not that translates into a career at this level remains to be seen, but it's something you cant teach.... I'm sure $ had something to keeping the #2 as well, but yes, with AR at the helm, and this team, the #2 QB should be someone that can step in for spot duty when needed, to just keep the team in the game.
Mike White was a FA so his choices would of been to back-up a HOFer who we're never going to bench unless he physically can't dress himself and a history of durability or go to a lovely warm, tax-lite place where the QB has question marks on his availability. Mike White has football brains and regular brains - It was the right choice (for him). I'd also add that we can't be 100% sure Rodgers is going to be here more then a year so the best long-term play for the Jets would be a young, high ceiling QB as #2 and luckily we had one in the building already. Ideally it'd be a second year QB and with a much (much) higher floor but.......
It's really pretty tough to see that high ceiling if the guy can't first figure out how to scan the basement and find the way out.
Well hopefully everyone here will end up happy when Rodgers wins LVIII, retires at the top as king of New York and Zach is our starting QB for our 2024 'Who cares, we just won' season.
We're discussing the possibility of Zach Wilson being an NFL quality starter for the Jets - Blind faith and positivity is disregard to all evidence is necessary in this here thread
Actually, the title of the thread is written as if the possibility has been attained. Your "when" in lieu of "if" does nothing to change blind faith into the reality you claim.
Skittish is better than panicked. The only way to improve on this is to play, which he did today and did better. He only had the one sack and that was a breakdown in the pass pro allowing the rusher to blow right between two OL. He did almost get the receiver killed on the pass into the left flat that he threw high - he has to clean that up. Aaron Rodgers is definitely having an impact on him.
Yes ..for your sake and NCs I want Zach to morph into a credible NFL backup. Can the Coaching staff reclaim a historic Joe Douglas bust ? Or will Douglas get us some veteran QB backup insurance after Pre Season? This team is primed for a Playoff run ..we cant risk not having ALL the pieces in place imo
