well to be fair he is like any other backup now. We dont celebrate if we hear Grant Hermanns is looking better and making progress. We dont talk about how he is learning from Duane Brown and how he might still have a future. It's preseason and he's a backup, how Hermanns performs in preseason games against other backups is kinda meaningless unless he is standing out at a whole another level. (neither Wilson or Hermanns are)
Grant Hermanns (who?) is an undrafted free agent but ok For the cancel Bickety fan club I think this is a pretty realistic take even if you hate I was the one who brought it up. Grant Hermanns
Well, exactly what is it that Douglas, Saleh and Rodgers are arguing? Surely you must recognize that coachspeak is based on many more considerations than just performance.
Telling the truth about his awful play on the field has nothing to do with rooting or not rooting with the player. If you can’t objectively analyze that he’s been awful and all signs point to him likely continuing to be awful based on what he’s shown, then you’re lying to yourself.
1000 times this! I believe that too…greatness doesn’t take forever to develop…it typically in football shows up in flashes early on and by year 3 you can see a player has it. in Zach’s 20 games, he hasn’t yet had that GREAT game. He’s had some really nice throws and some great moments…say the 4th quarter in Pitt when he brought us back and won the game, or that great throw up in GB to Davis that got us going. But he hasn’t had that signature game yet…300+ yards, multiple TDs and no picks…something like that. Just hasn’t happened. Sure, he’s had shit OL play, and his first year receiver play wasn’t great either. I get it. Plenty of excuses. But by now we should’ve seen some better consistency. We can analyze and nitpick to death and get analysis paralysis…but if you really just step back and look big picture, he just hasn’t shown anything to make you really believe he’ll be the guy. He just hasn’t.
No. Zach abandoned the pocket while being “patient”..big difference. He never has been patient in the pocket. Once the pressure comes he bails erratically. Left a clean pocket. It happened again. I don’t think it’s possible to take it out of him at this point. His game was always backyard football style. Molding him into a NFL QB will be challenging. And you can’t say coaching. New coach and HOFer now - he has an example to watch everyday now in practice.
Yeah. I’m pretty sure the other coaches told him not to run backwards like an idiot as well but maybe it will sink in this time lol
With regards to the bold, I totally disagree. First of all, there are no "shoulds" in life that are realistic, with regards to learning and growth. Secondly, how was he supposed to show imnprovement and better consistency, when his confidence was gone, and he was still struggling with the same idiotic OC? To expect him to have shown improvement and consistency was totally unrealistic. It fits the definition of insanity. Maybe to you and to the other naysayers he hasn't shown anything to make you believe he'll be the guy, but he has to others of us. The difference is in perspective and expectations. There is no shame in not being a Mahomes, Herbert, Burrow, or Lamar Jackson or Lawrence. People are different, they learn differently, and respond differently to stimluli and situations. Lawrence only improved because the CS changed. If it hadn't, he could still be looking bad. It's funny now that Zach has a different OC and passing game coordinator, he is improving. Maybe, just maybe, if he had had an OC like Hackett and a QB Coach like Todd Downing instead of the novice clowns he had, you'd be really singing his praises now, and bringing Rodgers in wouldn't have been necessary. Maybe if Greg Knapp had lived he would have pulled Zach aside and worked with him, or maybe he would have beat some sense into both Saleh and MLF, and made them realize that they were expecting too much and asking him to change too much. Mahomes got to sit for a year and learn from Andy Reid. Zach had to deal with the anti-Andy Reid for two years. The other thing is that I don't think any of those QBs were forced to play in a scheme for which they weren't a natural fit. Zach has been and is. That may not be the source of all his problems, but it's a large part of the problem. He may have struggled with some aspects in other schemes, but overall, if he was not asked to have to change the way he played the QB position, I'll bet he would have played at a much higher level. It's so easy for impatient, cynical fans to sit back and criticize players when they have zero understanding of what they're going through, what they're thinking and feeling, and/or how difficult it is to do what they are trying to do.
In a sad way, their schtick is kind of funny. In a very real way, they're acting kind of like jilted lovers.
We can go back and forth all day. Bottom line he is the backup. Hopefully all he has to do is pay attention. Not sure why we didn't kick the tires on Carson Wentz? Have to be better than zach
"I hope that Zach will ask for a trade this offseason and the Jets will grant it. Then I can bid adieu to the insanity that is the NY Jets, and can go root for Zach on his new team"
I am not expecting much from ZW however he is our backup and hope he becomes efficient. The talk about Poor OC, coaching, snd lack of good WRs is getting old especially a guy entering 3rd year. But he imply has to be efficient, doesn’t have to be a Mahomes which he’ll never be or expected to be, just move the GD chains.
How about hit a damn screen pass? That’s not on OC or coaching or OL or anything other than his short game accuracy sucks … it sucked year one, it sucked year two, so until he shows consistency it’ll be an issue until it’s not so many excuses for his poor play I really hope he can turn it around, but jeez he’s been literally the worst rated passer for two years now I don’t think the question is can he be Mahomes (uhm, no). At this point the question is can he be a viable backup now and potential mid level starter later (time will tell)
