We keep beating the same LT argument to death with essentially zero new information. Meantime, time moves on, Brown has not practiced at all yet and Becton is taking baby steps to recovery. As much as I’m rooting for both of them to succeed we find ourselves in a very precarious position at this point. The concerns by the fan base at the top level are valid, the specifics to beefing up the line are not that easy.
Nope, nope, nope. First of all, no individual should ever be expected to have a "typical" time frame for any injury or series of injuries. Second, there has never been a viable time frame proposed for Becton's return from any injury by a physician who has examined or treated him. If anyone chooses to get medical diagnoses and prognoses by consulting sports writers and internet sensations, I'm sure that's fine for them; I'll choose a medical professional intimately familiar with my particular condition every time.
That is incorrect of course players are expected to have typical timeframes for common injuries. Becton had the most common football injury there is, typically it doesn’t take 2.5 years to return to the field. If he wants to play in the NFL he should be held to the standards of NFL colleagues
Eh, I don't know. I don't want to be a Mekhi cheerleader but he has been through a lot and somehow managed to lose all of that weight despite the knee rehabs and time away from the field. As far as I know his surgeries did not include gastric bypass. He's the farthest thing from a sure thing, but I'm not criticizing the effort. We'll learn more tonight on Hard Knocks
Looking forward to hard knocks too but I doubt we will see anything that will portray any player in a negative light
Ok no problem. So name me one NFL player that’s taken more than 2 years to recover from an injury that came back and had a productive season. Becton is gone at the end of this season, the only value left is what we can get out of him right now, which doesn’t look like much considering he’s still injured
But it's Hard Knocks, not the One Jets Drive show No Knocks. You know, the show some people here got upset when I called it Jets Propaganda last year? And I'm far from a dark sider...
haha I know but Hard Knocks aint so hard anymore either and the Jets no doubt had lots of requests after they were chosen by the league. If they wont let the cameras show people get cut, they ain't gonna allow the cameras show someone like Mehki Becton dogging it
Is Duane Brown capable of playing RT if need be? Big If, but if Becton ends up looking decent at LT, and the angle more comfortable on the knee, might make sense to shuffle some. Turner looking like a terrible option, might need to do something to make the roster we have work. Mitchell also an option at RT.
I'm pretty sure he's never played RT before in his career. Not saying he can't, but I don't see it as very likely.
I think you right. Just the same, they might be well served to give him some reps at RT if he ever gets back out there.
Brown has never played RT before, so I think it would be a tall task for him to move. Plus the guy is still on the PUP list and he hasn't practiced yet. If he doesn't get back on the field soon I can't see him being the opening day starter at LT.
Becton is basically playing on the 2nd and third line. Yeah he is fine against slow big guys but you can see how is being beat badly by the speed rushers who have bend. The guy has the heart of the lion in the Wizard of Oz. I'm all in for doing whatever we can to give up draft picks to get a good OT and trade Becton. Fuck, we have Brown who is 37 still on the pup. This OL we have scares the shit out of me.
While most football injuries occur in the knee, the most common knee injuries are MCL sprains, meniscus tears and ACL tears. Becton's fractured his kneecap during last year's training cap. That is not the most common injury in football. I'm not making excuses for Becton, I'm just pointing out misinformation.
What anyone else did has no bearing on what any other individual will do. Naming names of those who have overcome an injury or series of injuries and succeeded is totally irrelevant. Speculation on anyone's future is fair game; I'm fine seeing what develops over the next few months before making any drastic moves.
Not incorrect at all - "typical" amounts to no more than an average of what could be expected for all such conditions that fall within a range of damage. Even if someone with the same bodily architecture had the exact same condition and combination of conditions, their bodies could not be expected to react in the same way even if when treated exactly the same. Consider two identical twins with precisely the same disorder to the precise same degree treated exactly the same - there would be no medical expectation of precisely the same outcome. Now consider that not a single medical professional intimately familiar with the details of Becton's condition(s) was ever quoted as telling us how his recovery would progress and how long it would take. What's "typical" about any of this?
So we dont hold him to any standard? Becton can play if/when he feels he wants to... He's not the first big offensive lineman to get injured and he's certainly not the first offensive lineman to have the type of knee injury he had this is professional football, professionals set standards and timelines for themselves
Hold him to any standard? Who said anything about that? It baffles me sometimes how people here think they actually know what's going on inside the organization, to the point of knowing details of individual medical conditions which they base on unaccredited reports from the internet and the hearsay allegedly from anonymous media "experts." Looking at anyone's individual injury as a "type" of injury is a mistake - everyone is different, every injury is different. We don't hold him to any standard because we don't know the standard and we don't know his condition; it's pretty simple. The team, on the other hand, does hold him to a standard because they know more about it than we do but that standard is not based solely on his condition but also on his contract, their needs and personal preferences, among a multitude of other factors.
ok, let’s hope you are right about the team. But reports are Becton pulled himself out of the game, that was not a team decision. Which is what I thought we were talking about
Every player should have the right (and it should be in the collective bargaining agreement) to pull himself out of a game, a practice or other training activity if they believe not doing so could compromise their health. Of course any such decision would be subject to review but I cannot imagine a scenario where a guy could be forced to perform if his body is telling him not to.
