That's the one thing I dislike about Hackett so far. I think FB is a waste in today's NFL unless you have one like the kid in SF that is a devastating blocker and a great receiver out of the backfield. Bawden's a nice player, but not good enough imo to take the place of a player at another position. AFAIK he's useless as a RB in terms of blocking for others, so the Jets will have to keep 5 RBs, which means they keep one less OL, DL, LC, WR, or CB, and they most likely lose a good young prospect that they want to keep, and otherwise would have. IMO that's where he could have used Ruckert or a backup LB, or even a backup OL/DL.
Good question. The WCO is complex, but he's smart, so I can't imagine that he's struggling that much with it, but he could be, particularly since he's used to making protection calls, so he has an extra layer of info to process. That said, Rodgers will probably make the protection calls, so that may not be part of the problem. It could be the speed of the DL that he's adjusting to.
I agree that it's very, VERY important, but one still has to have a complete roster. One also needs to draft players that fit one's scheme. IMO it wouldn't have benefitted the team at all to draft a lesser player at OT instead of a topnotch CB like Sauce or Edge prospect like McDonald. What moves would you have made? Whom would you have drafted, and instead of what current Jet?
All I know is that we ain't shit if Rodgers is getting molested on every pass play. You've admitted the O line is substandard... that's supposed to be Joe Douglas' forte. There's a reason why good teams are built from the O line out... It's an issue that will dog us all season if it's not fixed.
Agree. It’s so easy to sit back and point the finger about a guy that at least got it from the get go, and brought more OL help in his tenure than anyone, and forget he was set back time and time again by multiple injuries after injuries after injuries on the very same season to boot.
Players that are too large get injured often, that was the concern with Becton. Players that are nearly 40 years old also get injured, which is why Brown came available. Douglas can and should be blamed for his decision making with both tomlinson, even I knew was overrated and a bum until he landed on an already excellent offensive line in San Fran, and what do I know? nothin usually. that was a dumb signing
Im sure you would have predicted the injuries and fixed it ahead of time.Pretty simplistic if you ask me, sitting there evaluating results disregarding injuries.
The OL has been substandard because of all the injuries. This year it has a chance to be at least solid, if not very good. I'm not panicking. I'm gonna wait and see what happens.
I wouldn't stress this too much just yet. I seem to remember Sauce being with the 2's to start camp last year before being moved to the 1's. Let's see how Tippman looks on Thursday. Hopefully he plays well and Saleh/Hackett decide to give him some run with the 1's. They might even try to give him some run with the 1's this week because it sounds like Schweitzer looked really, really rough today. We've still got over a month until Week 1, plenty of time for Tippman to take hold of the C job. It's not surprising to me at all that Saleh is making him "earn" the starting position.
I would hope so, since his primary purpose for being on the roster is to be a blocker either in the rushing attack or in the passing attack.
MC was really good in college, but in the NFL he has not cut it. No matter how much a guy is nice in the locker room and loved you still have to produce on the field. I don’t think he should make the roster based off our RB room and other positions
