Not really an issue to me. We gave them somebody who sits out for a broken toe nail and wants to make big bucks; and we got a real top of the line, young, NFL center who has been seen doing splits on the field of battle and limps a bit for a play or two but stays in the game. Mangold has a totally different culture. In answer to the question Atlanta got hosed.
When Abe gets cut in 2008 or 2009 we wont even remember this trade except for the fact we got mangold out of it. Most likely we will win this trade.
Anyone of you who wants to have kept Abe over getting a 1st round pick and getting a potential pro-bowl caliber center is just flat out off their rocker. Honestly. Abe had all the potential in the world, but he is made of plaster, not brick. You guys want to have a player who can "impact" 4-5 games a year over someone who is going to start 16 and contribute solidly? If the 4-5 games he impacted were ones that mattered then I might see a sliver of reason, but when he's on the bench nursing his vagina during the playoffs then we are just going to disagree. Abe would never have been a Junction boy. He's either too brittle or lacks the heart.
No matter what anyone says, we got the better of the trade. We got the more durable rock in Nick Mangold. They got the eggshell that is John Abraham. Abe is a great pass rusher and can disrupt a game when healthy. However, I don't think Mangini would have had any use for his excuses which may have devalued the asset. You trade guys like that when their value is at the highest. While it may have ascended after a big year this year, Abe doesn't fit the 3-4 unless you play him at OLB. He can't cover. Plus, he would have been a disruption for the first year coach.
If Abe wasn't as fragile as glass, I'd consider Atlanta to have the edge, but Abe is very fragile and the way he plays he is also very inconsistent, as well as one dimensional so I see us as having the better side of the deal, and added to the fact that Abe would not have a role in this defense, I see it even more in our favor while we were also able to save a lot of money
If Abe could ver become healthy then it will be a good trade for both sides but at worst it can be equal in the future b/c we got a heck of a player w/ that pick.
If he stays on the field he makes it worth it for Atlanta, but it still is a great deal for us. We got a solid first round draft pick, a center for a long time, for a guy who didn't fit our scheme anyway.
Im sick of this "he sits out due to a bruised vagina or broken toe nail" crap. He had an LCL sprain and that's not a nothing injury. Now, I'll admit, Mangold is about 10000% tougher.
What do you expect us to say other then what the poll trend is? Then on top of it to come away with a grand slam HR with the pick we got for Abe makes it doubly good for us
Abraham is a one dimensional player that does ONE thing extremely well. He is weak against the run, shoots his mouth off (saying he had to think about his future when he kept himself out of that playoff game), is injury prone and seems to care much much more about the $ than playing to win. He lacks a competitive fire. He takes plays off when he doesn't think he can get a sack. This guy is soft. I was thrilled when Mangini and Tanny dumped him. Remember he turned down a very lucrative offer from the Jets at the same time we extended Ellis' contract. He's a ME player. Classic case of addition by subtraction. He was a distraction, and a player we are much better off without.
The above is quite strong, and I do not necessarily agree, except I think it was time for him to move on.
Kind of funny we had a player do that this year and he not did sit out. That was in the Dolphin game. Lets see if I can remember who that was................ Oh yeah Pennington. I believe he had a hand in enough plays for us to win that one. You think Abe plays under those conditions, rainy wet and miserable and a stomach virus (requiring IV's) to boot. Let me answer that one.... No Fucking way, not a chance in hell. LOL this is a tough game and Abe was not a tough player, nor a durable one. If you guys want to defend a 3-4 game, take the rest of the year off because," I have a boo-boo" you are nuts. His injuries may in fact have been bad but to give the appearance of a quitter/whiner/pussy is not a player I would want on my team not even a by a long shot. No matter how much talent he has. good bye good riddance. Atlanta should pick their pants up after this deal in hindsight. At the time it was probably a little bit in the Jets favor, now the scale is tipped irreversibly in our favor..................
