He literally said nothing about the Jets, he said Hackett sucked, he said what everyone else said, title is very misleading
“It doesn’t happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed. And that happened here,” Payton said of the 2022 Broncos. “Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much (expletive) time trying to win the offseason – the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around all this stuff. “We’re not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year. You watch. ‘Hard Knocks,’ all of it. I can see it coming. Remember when (former Washington owner) Dan Snyder put that Dream Team together? I was at the Giants (in 2000). I was a young coach. I thought, ‘How are we going to compete with them? Deion’s (Sanders) there now.’ That team won eight games or whatever. So, listen… just put the work in.”
There is rather large track record of Belichick as a HC without Brady - 10 years. Two play-off appearances in 10 years and 1 play-off win. That includes 5 seasons in Cleveland and 5 in NE (1 before Brady took over, one when he was out for the year, and 3 post Brady). Both his 5 year stints in Cleveland and 5 years in NE without Brady are very similar. Decent at best, but nothing great. It helps to have a HOF QB, let's put it that way.
TBH Denver is going to be more pumped up for this game than we are. If we were at home it might have been different. It was okay to call Peyton out after the original statement. But after he apologized Rodgers should have kept his mouth shut. Now, to them, we've got our QB talkin smack about their HC, which gives them a bulletin board.
Overall I think the Jets, Saleh in particular, have done a pretty good job of tempering expectations. Sport media machine is gonna do what they do.
Week 5 is the first week games can be flexed to SNF. The Jets and Broncos play week 5. However, I don't see the Cowboys-49ers being flexed out of SNF. Adam Schefter on Twitter: "The first time Sunday night games can be flexed this season is Week 5, which just happens to be when the Jets play at the Broncos. Hard to imagine NBC would drop the Week 5 Cowboys-49ers matchup for it, but as usual, the NFL schedule makers/script writers nailed it." / X
