JV You were my football guru and with this post, you became my life guru. Awesome point. I will think on this and come up with something I can sustain rest of my life. I was 278 once. Came down to 202. Now I am 238. I want to get down to 180 and maintain it rest of my life. I don't want to lose a leg due to diabetes or become blind later in life. I want to kick this things ass and maintain my weight rest of my life.
Also check out 647 bread. It’s in all the grocery stores. You can notice the thin fibers out of the bag, but if you toast it I don’t notice much of a difference at all. Tastes the same, it’s just a bit thinner and only 40 calories a slice/14 carbs (8g dietary fiber). I’m with Bickety. I’m fine without sweets. It’s the bread type carbs I love especially during late afternoon snacking. And booze on the weekends unfortunately.
I quit bread almost totally about a year ago, it breaks down so fast your body can't even process it, useless to eat other than for taste.
I tried Hero bread which is net 0 carbs. It's expensive and tastes like cardboard, even toasted. My wife likes the 647 and that's what I eat now. I toast it as well but the taste is there.
I recommend whole 30 for a solid reset. It's like Keto, but less fun. I don't eat sweets or candy, but like others I'm a huge bread guy. Going to a bread store and getting loafs of sour dough. Also like heavier beers like double IPAs. Otherwise I like to think I eat pretty decent. Wife is a great cook and eats mainly all healthy choices. Whole 30 is tough at first, your body is basically saying WTF the first 7-10 days... But after that it balances out and you feel fine outside of your food options are so limited eating starts to really suck. But if you do it right you'll easily lose 15-20 pounds in a month. I really suck at going to the gym. I have a membership that a force myself to pay for like a fine. The best way for me to exercise is an activity like golfing (no cart), snowboarding, biking, ect.
I have to think that if you have symptoms that are scaring you instead of soliciting advice here, even advice that guys here believe worked for them, you should really have a sit down with your doctor and maybe get set up with a nutritionist for a while to see what works for you. Take care of yourself, man.
My doctor already approved the intermittent fasting and in fact he encouraged me. In terms of Nutritionist, tried two of them but didn’t work for me. I gotta find my way.
Brook, go on a lot of walks, too. You don't have to go crazy fast, just move. A couple of little things: if you go shopping, park in the spots farthest from the entrance. When at home watching TV, take a few laps around the house during commercials.
Some ShopRites carry this stuff now. https://www.thinslimfoods.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=166 It was pretty good but it’s not very practical. It has to be frozen or refrigerated immediately and I’m never a big fan of cold bread. Whole 30 just always felt crazy to me. I know it works, and you probably feel great on it, I just don’t think it sustainable for every day life. You basically can only eat at home.
The best way to break a fast is to eat protein: chicken, lean beef or fish or protein powder. No sugar, carbs, raw vegetables or salt. Then you can eat an hour later a bigger meal of other foods. About seven years ago I lost 15 pounds in 5 days and kept it off for more than a year. I took Dr Schulze intestinal formula # 2 over 5 days. One of the claims of the product is weight loss. I think they recommend that you take it with intestinal formula#1 which has a couple of laxative herbs. I took instead about 500 mg of magnesium which works as a mild laxative. A bigger dosage turns it into a stronger laxative. You need to keep your bowels moving when you're taking the product. You can also get magnesium by taking epsom salts. Make sure you get the food grade epsom salts. About a quarter to half teaspoon. I took the capsules which are very big and hard to swallow. I open them and poured the powder in water instead. Or you can just buy the powder. https://www.herbdoc.com/intestinal-formula-2
I’ve never used it but a colleague of mine is having a lot of success with GOLO as an appetite suppressant.
@Brook! Why doesn't your doctor prescribe you Wegovy, Ozempic or any of the other diabetes drugs that suppress your appetite? My brother in-law's wife has lost over 60 pounds on one of those drugs as she told me she has no appetite. She sets alarms to remind herself to eat. You should definitely qualify for them since you are diabetic, right? I quoted JV's post because it reminded me of the popular drugs that suppress appetite. They are all over the news.
bickety. There is something more powerful than Ozempic. It is Mounjaro. Both Ozempic and Mounjaro are not covered by my insurance. So I gotta pay for Mounjaro out of my own pocket. I might just do that if Intermittent Fasting 18/6 doesn't work out for me much.
They all work and as long as your doctor prescribes it for your diabetes the insurance company should definitely cover it. My sister in-law was morbidly obese but she was also pre-diabetic. That's why insurance covered it.
I called my insurance company (Aetna) multiple times over it. No dice. I am forced to do Trulicty which isn't as effective as Ozempic or Mounjaro. But being diabetic, I am entitled to some coupons thru Mounjaro. I will stay on trulicty until November. If I don't lose at least 25 LBS by then ,I will switch to Mounjaro and pay!
You can definitely do this without the drugs. I was just thinking that if they were basically free then why not? It's all mind over matter. I've been on the weight loss roller coaster my whole life so I feel your pain. But if I had a life saving reason to lose weight, it would be easy. You can do this. The alternative sucks.
Not trying to be an asshole, but is it really that hard to just eat healthy natural food?!?..... fuck all the fad diets ('cause they dont work) Im not saying to be some Tom Brady level health freak (because Id be a hippocrit, Im not) just shop the perimeter of the store and buy real food without "ingredients".... vegetables, fruits, meat, nuts.... and get 7 hours a week of moderate exercise. Its not that complicated..... don't buy crap food at the grocery store, and there wont be crap food to eat at home when you're hungry
I hear you my friend. I won't eat breakfast. I will only drink soup around 1 pm and eat my dinner around 6 pm. At dinner, I don't want to limit myself to healthy food. That is my logic. Anything wrong?
