Interesting. I wonder whether his excuse for missing time in OTAs was valid or not, it was the last straw for the Jets, or they had already planned to move on. I think it must have been missing OTAs, because otherwise, why wouldn't they have tried to trade him earlier or released him before OTAs and minicamp? I hope that he can catch on elsewhere, but have to wonder if he has the smarts or desire to succeed somewhere else. I guess it's possible that Gipson, Kapp, and Brownlee looking so good in OTAs is what made them feel it was safe to go ahead and cut bait with Mims. Costello writing this pisses me off, however. By already stating that if they can't find a trade partner they're going to release him, could lower his already basement level trade value, and cause teams to offer nothing. They could just contact his agent and say when he's released, we want him.
Mims hasn't proved it on the field yet but I predict he will catch on somewhere and become a good receiver.
This is nonsensical. There is a different CS now from past CSs and a different GM from previous GMs. Mims was drafted when Gase was the HC. Since JD works with the CS for the draft, Gase probably liked and wanted Mims. I think Mims could be good in a different offense, althought route running is very important in the NFL, especially since Mims isn't great at contested catches. He did well his rookie season, just wasn't a fit for the WCO which Saleh and MLF brought in after Mims rookie season. GMs and CSs don't have a crystal ball. They can't predict injuries and illnesses.
personally never liked the pick and seen this coming a mile away, but rumor is he isn't officially released and that teams are waiting to put a claim in on him so JD is trying to get a late round pick for him (likely a 7th but better then nothing)
Yes. People are cut, is part of the job. Been told in front of a camera for entertainment of the fans is utter unnecessary garbage. These are people fighting for their livelihood.
I disagree. They are trying to work in the entertainment business, having cameras around for the highs and the lows should be implied
Handling it when you're cut or fired is one thing, but having a TV camera stuck in your face filming the whole thing with millions of people watching is another. How'd you like it if you were fired from your job and a TV crew was there to film it and millions of people would see it.
"how'd you like it" is not at all relevant. I dont work in sports/entertainment, if I did, I would expect to be filmed. For what its worth I woulda killed to be invited to an NFL training camp in my early 20s anyway. Those guys are living the dream
Didn't Mims have a very good rookie year with Sam Darnold and Gase? Then Covid, Zack Wilson, and LeFlower, and Garrett Wilson hit.
I would hardly call 23 receptions a very good year. I have never understood the fascination with this guy and Jets fans, it was pretty clear from the start that although he may have physical tools he doesn’t have what it takes to make it in this league as. I don’t think we will miss his 10 receptions a year - good riddance.
