Your first two brief sentences are totally on point but are nonresponsive to the OP which added a key adjective to the discussion you seem to have ignored.

Wilson is like a young guy with a 99mph fastball that doesn't know how to pitch. Work with him. Never give up on talent.

Mahomes, Allen, and Herbert have 99mph fastballs. Zach's is more like a 95mph fastball. That's the thing with Zach, he's got good but not great physical talent. And guys with 95mph fastballs who don't know how to pitch go to the minors and stay there unless they somehow figure it out.

The big thing with Wilson is will he develop mentally to play the position. Going thru his reads, progressions. Making smart decisions with the ball. Being able to recognize what the defense is doing and knowing when to call an audible or not. He didn't improve from year 1 to year 2. Now he sits for 2 years. I don't think he will ever be "the guy" here. This is another Darnold situation again. IMHO. The next Jets QB will either come from the draft or in FA when Rodgers finally decides to retire.

It remains to be seen, but for the moment, I'll respectfully disagree with you. Hopefully, Rodgers stays healthy all season so it's a moot point and we never have to find out. I understand why they did what they did. Unlike many, if not most Jets fans, they still believe in Zach. They understand how they gave him no chance to succeed. They believe that it would totally destroy what's left of his confidence and desire to play if he was the #3 QB this year, and they could definitely be right. With his supposedly working to fix his fundamentals during the offseason, and with Rodgers mentoring him and Hackett working with him, hopefully, he will begin realizing his talent and if he winds up having to play, showing why the Jets made him the #2 pick in the draft.

No more is going to be invested in an OT. The Jets don't have the draft capital to trade for a starting calibre LT, and even if they did, no one's going to trade their LT.

I agree with the overall sentiment of your post, but imo you are mistaken on a couple of points. One, JD not fail to get an OL in the draft. He cannot help that where the Jets were drafting, even at #13, they most likely were only going to have a shot at one OT (Jones) that the Steelers traded up for, and the Jets obviously were not going to take Jones even if he was there. The Jets' CS and FO evidently aren't panicking about the OL the way so many Jets fans are. They have Brown, Becton, Turner, Mitchell and Warren. Between those 5 players, they should wind up with 2 solid starters. The Jets got Joe Tippman in the 2nd round and Carter Warren in the 4th round, so that's another reason JD didn't fail to get an OL in the draft.

Two, Zach Wilson IS the 2nd string QB. The Jets still believe in Zach Wilson and think that making him the #3 would have finished destroying his self confidence and future with the team. Tim Boyle is most likely not making the final 53. He was here to help teach the offense, and was insurance in case Rodgers wasn't here for OTAs.

How was he supposed to improve when he still had the same dumbass OC, clueless QB Coach, the same offense, and the same shaky OL? Expecting him to improve under those circumstances is not realistic. It kind of meets the definition of insanity (keep doing things the same way that haven't worked and thinking that they'll work the 2nd time around).

If he learns from Rodgers and Hackett, has a more humble attitude, works hard, and plays well, the players will likely give him a 2nd chance.

Really? What is the difference between calling some guy the number two or the number three? When the time comes that the number one can't get on the field, the next guy up is the guy who can do the job best, not the guy with any particular number next to his name. Who says "the Jets" still believe in Wilson? They're stuck with him is more like it - can't afford to get rid of him, can't afford to keep him. If a guy is so psychologically weak that his performance is affected by his position on the depth chart he has no place in the NFL game.

Unless they get extremely lucky in the injury lottery the Jets have a striking need for a capable backup.

He was supposed to improve by seeing the field better, recognizing his targets better and identifying the defenses better. That's on the QB, no one else.

For fuks sake..... I liked it better here when someone took their ball and went home as soon as Mike White came in and immediately moved the offense when the golden child was benched....

Mike White with no Breece and AVT did better. Can’t blame coaching now.

The difference is that the #2 QB gets snaps in practice, and is activated on game days. The #3 QB gets barely any snaps with the Jets #1s in practice, as he runs the scout team, and he is always inactivated on game days.

JD and Saleh say that they still believe in Zach. If they didn't, they would have brought in a better backup earlier in the offseason. Thankfully, the Jets CS and FO aren't so quick to give up on a very talented QB as fans like you.

What's quick about more than two years? Why should anyone expect someone who has never been a capable backup to become one now because the number "2" keeps popping up?

And they make comments for a reason - not necessarily what some want them to mean. Do you believe the Jets need to get a capable backup quarterback? That's the question at the top of the page, not another report card for the past.

The difference is the #2 sits in the QB room getting the game plan, working with the 1’s and 2’s all week. The #3 runs the scout team. The 3 doesn’t get any work with the actual team playbook in practice, they’re running shell plays of the opponents. That’s why Zach is the #2 and Boyle is the #3. Boyle already knows Hackett’s offense. He doesn’t need the reps with the team during the week. He can step in as the #2 at any point. There’s no other FA QB that will come in here running scout team.
