David Carr is about the most average QB you’ll ever find. You won’t win with him, but you’ll constantly try to convince yourself that he looks good enough to do it. He’s not.
Yes. Exactly why I wrote that. Many here argued strongly for him over Aaron. And that's fine. I know things are looking really great right now, and that it could be pulled out from under us at any moment, so I'll try not to go overboard. For now, and maybe only now (Again, I get it) it's time for those of us who were really excited and happy that our management pursued and closed the deal on obtaining him to kick-up our feet and say "Ahhhh, you see?"
I was not one pushing for AR but man I truly respect this take. The off season has been the best part of the season (before last year) for a long time. We'll see what happens but if this is as good as it gets for now let's enjoy the hell out of it
I was all for getting Carr on the roster... but when Rodgers became a possibility I was like "Derek who?"... Aaron Rodgers is simply on another level.
carr is an above average 10-15 range QB Rodgers is a top 5 multiple MVP and SB winner the 1 advantage carr had was his age. he would have been an answer for 4 years minimum. rodgers likely gives us 2 max
I agree... and I think Carr would have done well with us. I also think he really didn't want to play in NY. Aaron is happy to be a Jet... he is a confident leader and seems very motivated. Rodgers checks all the boxes... except for the long term answer one. And if he can salvage Zach... then two years may be ok. (that might be reaching). Would you agree that Rodgers gives us a better chance at the VLT? However this unfolds... it's gonna be fun to watch.
It's almost as if stranding a guy in northern Wisconsin for nearly two decades drives a person to madness and unhappiness...
Even Rodgers would run for a first down more than Carr would and Carr is 7 years younger. A Rod is tougher too. Easy choice.
The dream is that Aaron plays for two or three seasons with us, we win a Super Bowl, and somehow through osmosis, Zach turns into a decent quarterback in the interim.
The dream is we win the Superbowl this season and then AR retires or gets traded. We've gone all in against the cap this season and only Rodgers exiting will prevent a mass roster exodus and not delay our next rebuild.
I think they're hoping for 4 years from rodgers. They signed Lazard to a 4 year deal and I can't remember JD ever signing a free agent to a 4 year deal. If the intention was for Rodgers to play 4 years, then the 4 year Lazard deal would make sense. There were also various statements ascribed to Rodgers from his first meet with the Jets at that dinner. He wants to play as long as Brady. Wants to win multiple championships, etc.
