I've assumed Boyle was signed primarily for the offseason OTA's and the transition to Hackett's offense. I didn't expect to see him clip-boarding in September. Also, I'm not yet giving up on the notion of Zach getting his shit together while being around his idol, Aaron Rodgers. We have had FAR worse backups than Zach Wilson. I know it's a dream, but apparently Saleh and Joe Douglas have it too. Longshot, but I can live with it. I doubt this board can though
I'm just happy you realized that the only way for you to express your opinion was to be a total douche about it. I'm sorry, just a casual fan's perspective.
I’m glad to hear you’re a casual fan of mine. Just like the Jets appreciate the insight of their fans, I appreciate the insight of my fans. Press like and subscribe for more.
Bringing in a 40 year old Qb who is now immobile at this point of his career and giving him a questionable offensive line is not a bright idea in the 1st place, than not having a capable backup is even more stupid. Favre was not injury prone as well and he still got injured with maybe the best offensive line in Jets history, if Arod goes down so will our season with Zack Wilson. Not bringing a capable backup is just stupid as we are in win now mode.
its always been that way. if your third string qb has to start at any point in a season, youre probably not winning the super bowl ... the only time i can think of this happening was when brady was suspended for deflategate, jimmy g got hurt, and brissett started one game (that they lost) push come to shove, we can live with zach handing the ball off for a few games. any more than that and were toast anyway.
You're assuming Boyle is 3rd string and not the backup... And that's the point. If either of them touch the field, we're fucked.
I agree, but who then? Any capable starter will be costly and they can't tie up this much money at QB. It's boom or bust. They have to invest more capital on a LT. A trade and sign is going to be costly.
ive never liked zach wilson and even i think thats a bit dramatic ... we were able to win several games last year by hiding him behind a strong run game and defense. boyle is here to essentially be a coach. i would wager one million internets that he does not make the 53.
I do enjoy the fact that this thread was just disguised as a reason to bash the offensive line management. There are very few options out there right now. Does Teddy even want to keep playing football? The dude is perpetually banged up and concussed himself. Trevor Siemien would probably make sense and cost very little.
Josh Johnson is another guy that's available who could be had on the cheap and probably give you a handful of solid games.
Look at the available pool and find me a guy that’ll cost a million and a half a year with no guaranteed money. We missed out on all the good backups. I don’t really see a huge deal to be honest though.
What vet is going to come in here and be the #3 QB that actually knows Hackett’s system? The #3 QB responsibility is to run the scout team. They get little to no work with the offense every week. That’s why you can’t make Zach the #3, they’re looking to develop him and need him to be in the room with Rodgers always. The “veteran” QB is a guy who can run the scout team AND knows the playbook well enough so that even though he’s #3 he’ll be ready to come in as #2 if Rodgers goes down. Tim Boyle is the guy that fits that criteria. Seriously, imagine calling Bridgewater and telling him “you’re gonna be our ‘real’ #2 QB, but we’ll need you to focus on running scout team while learning our playbook on your own time and you’ll have no work with the 1st or 2nd team players unless Rodgers goes down, all so we can continue to develop this little snot nose we overdrafted”.
This is complete foolishness...... 1) Although JD did fail to get an OL in the draft he still got a decent OL prospect in Carter Warren. Also, if the Jets current OL stays healthy along the average? They'll have one of the best OL's in the league. They suffered catastrophic injury along the OL last season. That's highly unusual. The idea that Aaron Rodgers will be running for his life is stupid. The Jets OL is a lot better than what you're giving them credit for being. 2) Zach Wilson is NOT the 2nd string QB. They'll keep Tim Boyle or someone else to back up AR. Zach will be relegated to 3rd string. He probably won't be active in quite a few games. You obviously don't have the best Jets knowledge. You're a typical fan screaming and crying that the sky is falling. Lol I doubt many people in this thread are taking you seriously.....
