We have 3 picks left today. Round 4 - No. 112 overall Round 5 - No. 143 overall Round 5 - No. 170 (from GB) Who do we want?
Best S, DL, LB, WR, OL available. Would love to stash Voorhees with a 5th rounder. Imagine him at full strength stepping into Tomlinson’s role after we cut him next year. Also as always… if we can pick up a pick or two I’m always in favor.
A lot of talent still on the board. Would love for them to snag one of the top OTs still available with their first pick today. Dawand Jones, Blake Freeland, or Jaelyn Duncan. If they wanted to wait until the 5th, you could maybe get Nick Saldiveri who’s got potential. At S, there are quite a few names left too. Antonio Johnson, he projects to be more of a box safety though. Christopher Smith might be my favorite S prospect left for us. Decent shot he could come in and immediately start at FS for us. JL Skinner is another name to watch. At LB, Henry To’oTo’o, Ivan Pace, and Noah Sewell are still on the board but my favorite would be Owen Pappoe who ran a 4.39 at the combine. I think we can wait for one of our 5th rounders and snag one of these guys. If they’re looking at skill guys, Tyler Scott (WR), A.T. Perry (WR), Trey Palmer (WR), Kayshon Boutte (WR), Israel Abanikanda (RB), Roschon Johnson (RB), and Chase Brown (RB) would be worthwhile dart throws for any of the three picks today. Now that I’ve listed all these names, I can’t wait for all 3 picks to be none of these guys!
Dawand Jones OT, Ohio State, 6'8" 374 is still on the board. Haven't seen the scouting report, but It would be fun to see what he, AVT and Becton could do in the run game. As for pass protection, even if he just stood there, it would take some time to get around him. He must have some agility, otherwise they wouldn't have put him at tackle.
I don’t know if we go WR today because you have to figure once Randall Cobb signs in a few weeks there won’t be any room to carry a 5th round rookie
I fell asleep before the 3rd round ended last night but he’s the name I was most surprised to see still available when I woke up this morning. I thought he was a 2nd round talent. Maybe there’s medical concerns we don’t know about yet?
My top 3: Dewayne McBride RB - very good in a zone system and after Ty’s departure we have a need. We were taking a RB at 15 if things fell differently. JD has taken a RB every draft. Brandon Joseph S - Ballhawk, we could move on from AD Andrew Vorhees OG who can spend the year on IR - I love our roster already and would have trouble picking someone this late who would earn a roster spot but with MCG on a 1 year rental and LT in a prove it year, a fully recovered AV would be a nice option in 2024. OVIE AV played with AVT at USC Honorable Mentions: I’d been mocking OT Blake Freeland to the Jets forever bc of his good lateral movement. Why Pass? He got schooled at the SR. Bowl where MCD killed it You have to leave the door open for DT. 280lb DT Ojomo and 290lb DT Brooks seem like players BS likes but 330lb DT Coburn fills a hole. Why pass? 330lb Seahawk FA Al Woods
As much as I would love for Randall Cobb to finally be on the Jets, I would prefer they take a shot on one of these guys in the draft today. Feels like we still need another guy that can take the top off the D. If that’s what they want, Tyler Scott and Trey Palmer would be my favorite guys.
I was mostly but not totally kidding. I absolutely think Randall Cobb will be taking snaps out of the slot this year, splitting with Hardman.
No, the medical concerns have been pretty openly reported… TBH, I’m amazed the same fanbase who is out on Becton is all in on Dewand
I do think Cobb will be our WR 5 on a vet min contract… I could also see us trying to get a 3rd/4th for CD and have a young burner learn under Cobb. Tyler Scott is also someone I’ve checked out.
I’m not totally out on Becton yet I could not be more out on Dewand. If we are talking sixth round project pick? Sure, why not. But there are a handful of red flags with this guy that come up before you even throw on the tape.
Becton showed up to his pro day in shape and ready to show off. Jones showed up to his pro day so out of shape he wouldn’t even step on the scale. Hard pass for me.
Taking a risk in the 4th round is way different than a risk in the 1st round. 4th round picks usually don't pan out that's why its a good risk
