There’s a RT who needs about a year to develop with a very high Zone blocking grade and has very good lateral mobility. Like I said, all the scouts said he needs a year to develop but the Jets drafted him in 2022 so we will see how JD is at finding mid round talent.
LT has a sizable dead cap hit next year and if he’s able to get back to pro bowl form, I don’t see us moving on. Unless JMS drops, I don’t see us taking OL tonight….
I would cut him now. At least next year the cap hit would be smaller. It all depends on how he plays this year.
We literally don’t have the cap space to cut him this year. As I mentioned, and you agree with, it depends how he plays this year. My comment is that I’d doesn’t make sense to draft his replacement with a 2nd rd pick when- as we both agree, it depends how he plays this year.
Is it possible we’re actually better here than last year? Fant was lousy/hurt and still a FA (maybe we can bring back?), and I know folks like herbig, and idk why but Some ppl liked Feeney. Thought I read that Ogbuehi and Schweitzer can play multiple positions and I think are better than Feeney/Herbig. And I think more ppl are excited about what Tippman vs Fant, albeit at diff positions. Looks like Ben Jones may show up too, add in that this team was extraordinarily bitten by the injury bug last year and shouldn’t be repeated, and maybe we’ve actually done enough? Am I right or nuts?
-Becton is 50LBS lighter this year -Brown played through an injury last year -Mitchell played wide zone in college and was always seen as a developmental OT who happened to over-perform when forced to start before he was really ready -Ogbuehi is a former 1st rd pick who’s a disappointment for his draft position but is still a capable OT -We have AVT just in case I don’t think you’re crazy at all… imo we would need 3 injuries before I start to get nervous Injury 1 - Mitchell steps up Injury 2 - McGovern steps up
Laken Tomlinson in his career has been a pretty solid guard. I am as negative as they come and I think he is going to have a solid bounce back year. I was in favor of the signing and am not giving up on it working out. Rodgers in the house is going energize this group like never before, I would have liked to get another Tackle on the mix, but the truth is our Oline hinges on Becton. If he can play and be 75% of what we thought he would be become our line is going to be just fine.
I think the people who voted "extremely confident" truly believe that to vote otherwise is to invite chaos and bad luck. Which is fine, but those votes should count as prayer beads, not actual votes.
It's probably more superstitious panic reverse psychology. Ain't nobody "extremely confident" for real. I'm extremely confident about that.
The problem with our OL is not the players, it’s that historically they haven’t been able to stay healthy. Clearly JD is counting on that trend reversing. Last year I’d have bet everything I had that Becton would miss significant time, it was so obvious and frankly disappointing that JD couldn’t see that. But this year Becton looks like a different man and he’s had ample time to heal fully. Mitchell’s issue shouldn’t persist. Brown is concerning just due to his age, but he’s proven he’ll work through pain. I think our OL is gonna be a lot better than we think.
Brown has proven he can play through pain, but he also played very poorly. Remember that lass pass against Minny. White had Moore (I think) open in the end zone and was about make a read, but Brown got beat like a drum and he had to release the ball. It's just one example, but he was rated at the bottom % of the list for the year, and not just starters, but all 71 tackles that played. Now he is a year older. I too hope that he will stay healthy and can play better. We just can't count on it. Just like we can't count on Becton, who hasn't played in two years. I am very encouraged by his progress, but do you think JD is so confident in him? We will see if he will pick up his 5th year option, that will tell us something. Feels like we need at least one more solid guy at Tackle spot. I am more confident in the interior now with CMG back and Tippman.
JD was so stubbornly confident in Becton last year that he didn’t try to make an offer to Moses and didn’t draft a guy to replace him or at least give Fant competition. What makes you think that changed now? We’re going with what we got and maybe hoping for a TC casualty from another team to help us. That’s likely been the plan all along.
I find it weird you (and too many others) think we didn’t make Moses an offer last year… or some who forget FAs actually get to decide what offer they take….
