Everybody needs to calm down a little bit. First of all, we appear to have 3 good starting calibre tackles (Brown, Becton.& Mitchell) on the roster and AVT could move back over if we have a rash of injuries to tackles and need more depth (and we appear to have good depth behind AVT if that should become necessary). Moreover, we can draft a developmental tackle in a later round and we can let him sit and learn for a year (remember that we got Mitchell last year in the 4th and according to certain sources, he played better than virtually every other tackle selected in the earlier rounds before he went out with the blood injury). Probably means we end up picking up Becton's 5th year option. Can't say right now whether that's good or bad. If he stays healthy and he plays well next year and during his option year, then its likely the best thing. We should be fine at OT next year. Also, AR won't hold the ball as long as Zach did, so that should relieve some pressure on the O-line. Also, on McDonald, it doesn't matter how good the media thinks he is or where members of the media put him in various mock drafts. The question is how will he play for us and how does he fit our scheme? The same scouts who rated Gardner, Wilson & Hall so highly last year, apparently rated McDonald very highly this year. I think you got to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Depth at such an important position is a good thing to have. When you're halfway through the season and have lost 2 edge's to injury, you'll be very happy to have McDonald.
If Douglas ends up getting fired, it's his arrogance that he can evaluate talent better than other GMs that will do him in. Trade the pick back to a team that needs one of the highest players still on the board, and take advantage of the fact that the pick is worth more to them than it is to us.
The first of many personal attacks that will be launched once TGG gets into "rationalize the latest dumb thing the Jets did" mode.
Relax about the OL dudes. The jets have 3 starting caliber T’s (brown,Becton, mitchel) and AVT in a pinch. If they take a C. They have flexibility with McGovern at C/G In order to beat the Bills, Chiefs, CIN. It’s getting them off the field on 3rd down or causing strip sacks. Period stop comparing prospects to mock drafts as if it means anything. He was mocked to the KC a lot, so if the chiefs selected him, it would have been a great pick but to the Jets it’s not ? Stop
You mean the unproven Mitchell, Becton the guy who comes into training camp out of shape and is injury prone, or the 37 year old who missed 5 games? You want 3 questionable lineman as our insurance policy for someone who we just gave up a shitload of capital for and investing over 100 mil for? The offensive line sucked last year with the same people we needed a upgrade we failed miserably. Instead we were more worried about getting Arod his wish list than spending money on Lineman.
You should always work the phones. Picks are normally in what, 30-45 seconds earlier? It’s not a big deal.
We’re going to be playing with a lot of leads. Get ahead, then let the d-line pin their ears back and make plays.
Right now I hope they can get Dawand Jones. If not, gotta get FAs, like Fleming. Or both. Pickings are slim. To bring back what we have today and expect anything different from last year is simply moronic.
Uh the O-line was fine until AVT got hurt brotha ( and was fine at the beginning of year without Becton). Did I say not adding a lineman ? No - they can add depth, they didn’t need to use the 15th pick on a tackle that was for depth insurance
It would be typical Jets to sorround Ar with a shit oline and have him get a season ending injury in the 1st game off the season on 9th sack of the game, and since Joe Douglas is so brilliant and didn't even sign a capable backup we will be having Zack Wilson as our starting Qb for the rest of the season.
No would need to "calm down" if Douglas had made a good pick at 15. The fact that you urge everyone to "calm down" speaks volumes that Douglas just made ANOTHER Becton, Zach Wilson first-round blunder.
He might get hurt again playing tackle. He has short arms and the nature of his injury is something that would not have occurred if he played inside. We need a true tackle to play tackle permanently, not a guard.
nuthn wrong with not knowing all NCAA players. actually something IS wrong with knowing too many NCAA players!! hilite reel looks legit. shrug. fwiw. F all yall internet GMs. get tf over yerselves!!
Tell me how MANY defensive ends do we need? Clemons Lawson Johnson Huff Franklin Myers Now MacDonald Truly Joe Douglas knows how to fulfill positions of need in the draft. Now watch him draft a TE in round 2. We only have 3 good ones already.
Just a curious, head-scratcher. They didn't go best-player, or need. Can't understand the thinking... felt the same way last year about Ruckert. Obviously, they were trying to trade down, but this isn't a great draft up-top the board, so they had no takers. This was one of my big concerns, with all the compensation they gave GB. I figgered the Pats would take the lineman, and in-essence they did. I would probably have felt better with any position-group other than DE. I'd have preferred Kancey by a lot, if they were gonna go D. Disappointed, and this one we can't put on Woody... this is JD, Saleh, & the scouting staff. And, it's one of my big questions on Saleh, & the CS - - talent evaluation, & player usage. .
Saleh saying he is elite pass rusher, and top pass rusher on their board. Let's hope he is right. Is JFM moving inside though? We have gaping hole at DT otherwise and too many DEs. Just wasting resources. Just last year traded up for Jermaine. Signed Huff too.
