Folks, a lot has been made of this restructured contract. Wait till you see this, it is so good for us, so on and so fourth. That's utter poppycock. The only way Jets could truly benefit is if Rodgers took less actual money or if GB would have eaten some of that. None of that happened. We took the full contract, and it wasn't reduced. So every penny of that guaranteed amount will count against our CAP. It is just spreading money around (can spread max of 5 years) and moving the buck down the road. Not actually reducing the overall hit.
The look in Rodgers's eyes, even while just throwing a practice ball, says a lot. Max focus. Like a hawk looking at a rabbit. There's just no let up. Pay attention Zach, that's how you become great.
Great interview! THIS is what has been missing for so long from the Jets: an Alpha Dog at QB who isn't afraid to declare his intentions to win. And he's not obnoxious or boastful, you know he can back up what he says...like the old saying goes: "It ain't bragging if you can do it". Honestly, I haven't heard this kind of supreme confidence - spoken out loud - since Joe Namath. It's ironic. This franchise was defined by a QB who was so sure of himself and his teammates that he guaranteed victory over an "unbeatable" Colts team considered one of the all time best. That performance paved the way to the AFL/NFL merger. It was not only franchise defining, it was NFL defining, literally. But once the merger happened, the Jets seemed to move away from what had made them great and tried to become what the old NFL was: predictable, boring, "defense wins", offense is a necessary evil. They clamped down on outspoken players and charisma. Instead of celebrating their "outlaw" beginnings, they worked hard at becoming "acceptable", and frowned on their players, especially the team leaders, from speaking out like Joe Willie did. And I don't know how, but this suppression of individual expression, has coincided with 50+ years of underperformance. We'll see what happens, but if the "spell" is to be broken, it has to begin with a "hero"...or maybe a "big bad dragon"...who knows what he can do and gives those around him the confidence for them to do the same. If this doesn't motivate this team to greatness, nothing will.
Just placed an order for a Rodgers jersey, and knowing my history with the Jets jerseys cursed this trade by doing so.. I mentioned it in other thread some time ago, but here's the quick recap: -Sam Darnold -Jamal Adams -Le'veon Bell -Zach Wilson -Elijah Moore Rodgers will turn the trend, I feel it in my water.
