Here is bunch of GMs discussing BEFORE THE FACT what the fair deal should be including Tanny: https://www.the33rdteam.com/categor...-packers-trade-package-look-like-for-rodgers/ Joe Banner: “How do I think this ends? My guess is that the Jets surrender a second-round pick in the next couple of weeks. What I think should happen, however, is that they offer something more modest — maybe a fourth-round pick – then sit back and wait for the Packers to say ‘yes’, because how can they say no?” Tanny: “So, what is a fair deal? I’d say a second-round pick this year and a second-round pick in 2024 that could go to a first if Rodgers plays 60 percent of the snaps this year and the Jets go to the playoffs. Diamond: “In the end, compromise will be needed. I think the final compensation will look something like this: the Jets’ second- and fourth-round picks this year (Nos. 43 and 112) and their first-round pick in 2024, which New York no doubt will hope lands in the high 20s after Rodgers leads them to the playoffs.” Spielman: "if the Packers are going to pay for half the contract, maybe that’s a third-rounder that goes to a second. If the Packers aren’t going to pay for any of the contract, I’d probably give them a Day 3 pick, no higher than a fourth-rounder." It looks like Tanny and Diamond are very close to the actual deal, almost spot on. Banner and Spielman are sharks - basically saying should be no more than a second rounder. Interesting part is whether GB is eating any of the CAP. That remains to be seen, but I doubt it.
very surprised we gave up so much with the way JD has done deals in the past. I was worried we might give up JUST the 13th pick and this was alot worse. Plus this is where we SETTLED, image what GB was asking for. I blame Rodgers for this. If he made up his damn mind earlier when there were other options available then we would have had some leverage.
exactly! At WORST the 2024 conditional pick should be conditional on Rodgers playing a 2nd year. THEN and only then should we give them a 1st.
but you didnt factor in that there was ZERO chance Green Bay was going to keep him so that SHOULD have given us alot of leverage.
Or even just protecting the pick where it's only a first if we make the playoffs this year. We could end up in a situation where Rodgers is washed, and we head into 2024 without a QB and without a (high) first round pick. Hopefully that won't happen, but it's unacceptable that Douglas didn't hedge against it. (Not that he cares ofc; if we miss the playoffs, he's getting fired, so he doesn't care about our 2024 draft in that case.)
My problem, as I've mentioned many times before, is that everyone is ignoring the rest of the team. Didn't they lose six-straight games to close last season? Was it only QB play that contributed to said collapse? Were the Jets really a QB away from being serious contenders?? If ya think they were, then I understand overpaying for said QB. But if ya have questions about a) the HC, &/or b) other aspects of the the whole team, then overpaying is the epitome of SOJ. I've been waiting for eons, for the team to be built the right way... through the draft. Aside from the obvious Zach burp, there's a solid nucleus of talent... but the job wasn't finished. Now, that opportunity to build a consistent winner, has been jettisoned in favor of the win-now thing. Maybe having AR next to him, & an experience O CS, will help Zach become a functional QB, who can take over when AR retires. A big 'if.' Have the holes on the OL, DL, Safety, etc been addressed. Chances are that the Packers, or Pats will draft the OT the Jets could've gotten at 13. Thus, y'all better be hoping that Becton stays healthy. Maybe a run-stuffing DT will still be there at 15? Was the D really championship caliber last season? The bottom line... everything will have to fall into place perfectly, for the Jets to really contend. This has played out exactly as I feared... Woody, Mr SOJ himself, got his headline to sell the media, & gullible win-starved fans. Just very disappointed. .
Connor Hughes thinking this could be a 3 year partnership. I think its something to watch in the contract restructure
I hope the Jets draft a QB every year until they find one. I say Rodger plays two years with the Jets and then we are right back in the market for another one.
