You're right that there's a good chance the Rodgers era will end in disappointment, but I don't see any better alternatives at this point.
Woody’s held his ground thus far, he’s not caving now. Recent event: It’s leaked but quickly laughed at that GB has other options My take: GB wants to move things along Recent Event: Bahktiari mentioned he won’t be playing on his existing contract next year ($40mm cap hit) and the team is in a rebuild My take: The Packers held on to Rodgers 1 year too long to get ideal value, they are reminded of this mistake Recent Event: It’s leaked that the Jets are a lock for OT at 14 My take: The Jets don’t have “leaks”, this served a purpose Recent event: Talks have picked up btw the teams have picked up My take: The Packers want to move things along and the Jets have shown them the way… 13 + 44 + 2024 unconditional 1st + CD for 15 + DB + AR https://www.nfl.com/news/jets-packe...d-in-trade-talks-surrounding-qb-aaron-rodgers
When I read that, my take was that it was leaked by the Jets' front office to reassure the fan base by portraying Woody as a wise man and strong owner. In this saga, I assume that every scrap of information that's published was leaked by one side or the other to bolster its position or undermine the other guy's and that most of what's leaked is pure BS. Woody makes me VERY nervous.
So again, what's your solution? Sign a mediocre (at best) stop gap QB and try to draft your next FQB? The reality is that you're almost certainly not getting to a SB, let alone win one, without a top QB. If you follow this route you're all but conceding the Jets don't get a SB for at least one year, and probably 2-3 because you won't a have top QB on the roster. Don't sign or trade for any QB thus retaining all your capital, and draft the best QB you can at #13? (From your other posts I'm pretty sure you wouldn't try to trade up). This year's QB doesn't have any can't miss QB's in it as far as I can see, so you'd be rolling the dice that you can get lucky (lucky 13?), and then go into the season with ZW as the likely starter, unless the rookie beats him out, unlikely but possible. In any case, you're still not going to have a very strong QB room, nor an assured top QB. And again, this would require that the Jets were able to develop a rookie QB, something they have yet to prove. Try and trade for LJ? Talk about surrendering capital and cash! And even if you did do this, do you believe Lamar is a better bet than Rodgers to get them to the playoffs sooner? Because Douglas & Co don't have more than next year to accomplish this. Am I missing another option? It's all well and good to piss on the Jets for their failures, and to have serious doubts about them being able to show real, sustainable progress, but where's a better solution? As Will Rodgers said: "Anyone can see what's wrong. It takes some fine eyesight to see the solution".
I agree with the majority of what you had to say here. I think I view the draft compensation In a different light though. As, you are right, there is zero guarantee when It comes to the draft. There is still the possibility of. You lose that when you give away the future assets that could keep this team relevant for future years. Not just this one or two year window. Those picks may not pan out but they absolutely won't If you are giving them away to aquire a one year rental because those assets now belong to another team that Is look to the future and has that possibility now of finding an impact player at the expense of our lost draft capital. I don't think it's ever a good idea to give up too much for a short window. Ever.
Any GM who leaks info a week before the draft to calm the fanbase isn’t playing the same game as the other GMs… I thought bottlecaps would be fun given the average age of the board.
At this time of year, I just have a tough time taking any leaked information at face value. That's my point. Maybe I'm too cynical.
I don’t know how anyone could disagree with this. If you are taking any sort of leak seriously in the week leading up to the draft then I have some ocean front property in Oklahoma I just saw you.
You're projecting & deflecting (translated: you're struggling) The "AR/future unknown" issue was wholly compatible with the song title "Tomorrow Never Knows." I'm also known for benevolence and mercy and instead of taking exception at you lashing out at me I took pity and gently pointed out your repeated inability to make the connection with respect to what was succinctly pointed out above. . That I'm still having to explain it confirms a continued inability on your part to see the relatedness with "Aaron Rodgers / future unknown" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" and if I say so, it also speaks well of my patience in addressing this peculiar shortcoming of yours. . .
