So in other words SF is going to give up on multiple years of a superstar receiver, whose value is higher than a 1st round pick, for one year (he’s not playing 2 years) of a 40 year old quarterback? Seriously dude, where do you come up with this shit??
Rodgers really wants to be on the West Coast. Packers don't want him in the NFC and the Raiders weren't interested.
While the Jets are right to exercise patience in this negotiation, the one big caveat is that they need to make sure that they aren't taken advantage of by either GB or Rodgers. Douglas needs to show that he's in the driver's seat and remains there however this turns out. If this means walking away from Rodgers and GB and going in a different direction, so be it. Douglas has to be pro-active, not reactive. The Jets - despite their long history of failure and ineptitude - are still a great destination given their location in the biggest media market in the world, and they have a good solid base of young players primed to have long term success. If Rodgers doesn't see this, or GB thinks they have more to offer than the Jets do, and the Jets play into either of these, then they'll continue to be the losing franchise they've always been. Before this point is reached, Douglas needs to pivot to another plan.
I would imagine this gets done around the draft. If this is still not resolved after the draft, then JD will have to start thinking about other options. In the end I do think it will get resolved.
What team wouldn't he dump the Jets for? Maybe the Texans? This is such a weird offseason where fans have actually convinced themselves he wants to be a Jet. How can people not see that Rodgers is being forced to go to the Jets or lose 60 million dollars. He said the word Jets one time, and almost choked on it.
Except he can stay right where he is and get his money by just punching the time clock. He's not going to lose anything.
Rodgers wants to come here because he will be a legend if he actually leads the team to the promised land. Legend. We are a barren, snake bitten laughing stock of a franchise for most of our existence. Bringing he Jets to the SB is like Frodo bringing the ring to Mordor. Rodgers will be a legend. And if he doesn’t do it… he’ll still be able to rest on his incredible career and it will be a negligible blip that no one remembers. Rodgers is most definitely a man that considers himself worthy of being that legend.
I never understand why more players across sports don't have this attitude. A chance to be the legend who puts a moribund city/franchise on his back and carries them to glory. A chance to be THE ONE. Instead guys jump onto super-teams and ride along for a ring. How is that fulfilling? I don't relate to that at all. "Hey, you can't blame him a guy." I'm not blaming him. I'm just no longer respecting him.
He’s a legend and one of the best pure throwers of all time regardless of what he does moving forward. It’d be different if he was ring-less but he squeaked one out early so he doesn’t have to worry about any of that.
I could see it going two ways with Rodgers: Not giving a shit about winning another ring because he cares about no one other than himself or Badly wanting another ring with a second franchise (and one that notoriously does not win) because he’s got one of the biggest egos of all time.
You missed the 3rd option: He doesn’t care either way because he’s being paid a fortune to play football regardless of where he plays
