You don't restructure a guy, pay him 15 mil signing bonus on the spot and then trade him away a few weeks later. It's too much commitment for this year already. If they didn't already pay him, maybe. But it is too late now. As far as void years, it's not like he didn't agree to it - there is no downside for a player on taking void years, it's that GB decided not to spread the CAP farther into the future. They probably want to essentially take on what they can this year to have more flexibility in future years after they evaluate Love this season. It's just a CAP balancing act, not that David didn't agree to void years to get the money he is guaranteed sooner. Anyway, I would be shocked if David is in the deal.
Swap 1st round picks this year, then a conditional 4 next year that can become a 2/3 depending on how far the Jets go this season...
We can agree ts unlikely but we can disagree if it’s possible. From my perspective they didn’t “commit” to him as much as free up some needed cap space. From my perspective, I can see the value of taking all your cap lumps this year and treat 2023 as a losing year positioning for a good draft and a ton of salary cap space in 2024. To me, the “conditional” part of the 2024 pick is a big stumbling block for the Packers, they don’t want to be dependent on AR to accomplish their goals. If I’m JD that’s the direction I want to take the negotiation. Why wouldn’t DB accept the void years? Leverage. As the contract is structured now with a $40mm cap hit in 2024, DB will (more likely) decide where he plays next year. If he added void years, he wouldn’t have that option.
There's been a lot of shitty QB's who thought they could start and hang around the league and what not. Zach's just another in a long line of those. The only difference here is he gets to hold the clipboard for his childhood hero.
Jets give: 43 Conditional 2nd in 2024 that becomes a 1st if the Jets make the AFC Championship Game. Jets receive: Rodgers Conditional 4th in 2025 if Rodgers is not on the Jets in 2024.
Pick 112 is worth 70 points--Thats the max I'd give just to get things going early. But what the NYJ will do could be crazy bad.
jets give 2023 2nd rounder, 2024 2nd rounder, corey davis (we sign OBJ for a group of wilson, lazard, OBJ, hardman, mims) Pack give aaron rodgers 2025 3rd rounder conditional (if rodgers doesn't play in 2024) honestly the packers "win" this trade no matter what. even just a 2nd this year is a win. they are way overvaluing rodgers and JD is stretching out his limits and the packers GM thinks he's getting screwed. he's such a moron i'm at the point I doubt this trade even happens. If I was JD i'd tell him to pound sand and go sign teddy b who would at least get us to the playoffs and draft a mid round QB to develop. I've never seen a trade where both teams want it to happen and the player does and it isn't happening because 1 GM is completely inept. Rodgers isn't worth "elite" picks. garret wilson is worth way more then rodgers and thats the potential of a mid 1st. a cheap player on a 5 year deal that's top 10 and young is worth way more then a 40 year odl QB on the decline with 1 year maybe 2 left tops. if rodgers was 35 he'd be worth a wilson/stafford package but he isn't. he turns 40 this season and on the brink of retirement. Worse off the packers Gm shows how inept he is. look how the colts handled peyton manning and even the old packers GM handled favre. both were way better then what they are doing to rodgers right now
