I did a couple of trade downs. I could see JD going that route. Also I doubt we have an extra 2nd because it goes for rodgers but the trade could happen post draft so we have all our picks this year
The big value is in trading down the #13. That's what will get you back a decent 1st round pick plus a 2nd or 3rd. I'm guessing the Jets are going to be short picks this year due to a trade last year and the Aaron Rodger's deal. That makes trading down the #13 a really wise proposition. Anybody you take on #13 could bust and the difference between the value on that pick and the value 7-8 picks later is just not large enough to justify making the pick.
JD likes blue chip players with his 1st rounders. more likely to trade up in the 1st and trade down in later rounds for most picks. JD hasn't traded down in the 1st ever yet. he's traded up twice though (AVT and JJ) plus traded up in the early 2nd (breece hall)
He needs to start thinking about trading down in the 1st. Good GM's will find good players anywhere in the round. Bad GM's have to trade up to cherry-pick, leaving depth issues in the process.

that logic makes 0 sense. good GMs identify good players and find ways to get them no idea personally, just talking about how JD operates based on his history
GM's who cherry-pick consistently watch their rosters fall apart due to depth problems. Jets GM's have never had a problem identifying talent. The problem has always been about the roster falling apart after a few seasons of too many trade ups.
our GMs have been awful at finding talent in any rounds up until JD. quality over quantity. blue chip players are hard to come by, you get them while you can. a garett wilson on a rookie deal is way more valuable then a mims and jeff smith combined. JD uses later rounds and UDFA and FA to fill gaps and have a well rounded roster. the draft is for landing cheap blue chip players. thats how he operates which is clear
Idzik, Maccagnan. 'Nuff said. NIL has changed the way teams approach the draft. More talent is staying in college for an extra season which leads to the bottom half of the draft being watered down. You've got to get "your guys" early, because the draft becomes more of a crapshoot earlier than ever before. This will eventually even out, but currently, NIL changes everything, not just the college game.
